A happy song!

I have been stumbling around the internet this evening, listening to happy songs, like James McMurtry's Choctaw Bingo and John Prine's Sam Stone. Do you ever get into a music listening "binge"? I am replacing some strings that were put on my Collings guitar when I got the frets sanded down. I will report about all that in a separate post. Here is San Stone, one of my favorite John Prine songs. This recording is from the 1970s, when John Prine was writing some of the best "folk" music ever. I was turned onto him by my brother, who served in Vietnam. My brother's roommate was a bartender at the Earl of Old Town (in Chicago), where John Prine was "discovered." I hope you enjoy the tune.

I can’t listen to that song, but I’ll tell the world what a great song it is.

Eh, it makes me tear up, but what's wrong with that? It confirms that I am still alive.

@TheHorse — I walked right past a place where a Marine on duty ate the barrel of his service revolver when I went to the command center one morning going to get the messages. It hadn’t been cleaned up too long (the sidewalk was still wet where they’d washed his blood off the ground). It’s a little TOO real for me.

@FourWalls That's why we need people like John Prine and Woody Guthrie.

I have been on a Steppin' Out by Joe Jackson binge. I even listened to a 57-minute version. After that I listened to a concert by the Bee Gees. Have a good day.

@TheHorse I was playing some of this oldies the other night and my husband asked who that was. I told him and he said that he didn't remember him. Then another song came on and he said, "Oh yeah, I remember him now!"

@TheHorse Significance of many words there went over my mind. But it is again a sad song..............you need to be bashed... I have to admit he is a better lyricist than your love song writer.

"There's a hole in daddy's arm/where all the money goes." That's good writing. A reference to heroin. Many Vietnam vets came home with morphine addictions. Those became heroin addictions once they were home.

I've got the radio turned on all day, so I guess you could say I "get into a music listening "binge"."

He was a self-effacing musician. His songs all had three or four chords and were pretty simple musically. He liked to joke about that. But he was a brilliant lyricist.

I sure do get the urge but then I have a Favorite list of both English and Latvian songs and while I start out with joy I come across songs that bring bittersweet memories. C'est la vie!

Back in 2021 I used to "binge" listen to Michael Jackson's songs. I evendiscovered some of his not-so-popular musicals as well like Pie Jesu and some songs from his 'Invincible' album. Speechless is my recent favorite.
