Longmont Colorado residents Arnie and Shayna Weil were taking their dogs Sonic and Yobo to Coot Lake in Boulder on Thursday when the dogs saw a tennis ball in the lake and they jumped into the lake when Arnie jumped into the lake.
Since Sonic and Yobo are experienced swimmers and have Voice and Sight tags, they were without leashes when they jumped into the lake. Arnie did jump into the lake to rescue both dogs by breaking the ice in the lake while his wife was at the shore.
Both dogs were rescued and they are in good health thanks to the actions of their owner who is thankful that there was no snow in the lake at the time of the incident.

they knew how to swim, but it's good that their owner was there.

I have heard stories of dogs being able to swim in water.

That sounds like a dangerous thing for the owner to do too, as he might have gotten hyperthermia from the icy water too, and they look like big dogs, that could have weighed him down when rescuing them too.

It was a risky act of the owner of the dogs to jump into the icy lake. Arnie was grateful that the ice on the lake was easy to break and no snow in the area.

Thank goodness they are okay. Dogs are usually good swimmers but when it is cold that could cause problems. Funny that they went after the ball.

I have heard that dogs are great swimmers and I am surprised that the dogs would chase a tennis ball in a cold lake myself.

How scary. I'm glad the dogs were rescued. It was much too cold.

Cold weather in a lake is dangerous indeed.

I have noticed that about the behavior of dogs since there is a dog that belongs to a neighbor that barks around midnight when I am trying to sleep.
