Our first Christmas gifts

We had our annual Christmas dinner at the clubhouse last night. The Social Committee did a wonderful job of catering for around 150 people. There was a choice of ham, turkey or pork with all the trimmings and a choice of Christmas pudding or fruit salad and pavlova for dessert. While we were all still sitting at the tables, we were given a gift which we were told not to open. The compere read out a story and every time he said ‘right’ we had to pass our parcel to the right. If he said ‘left’, we had to pass the parcel to the left. This created a lot of fun and laughter. When the story finished, whatever gift was in front of you was the one you kept. Vin received a very nice little pillbox. It’s quite flat so better for a man than one of the rounder ones which tend to be deeper. I was very happy to get two oven mitts. They’ll be going into our motor-home when we get it.

@JudyEv Thank you! It has started out very nice and it looks like we will be having a wedding on Dec. 28th possibly. Our oldest is engaged. Wedding was planned for next Fall, but her ex has just filed papers for custody of their daughter. She will need permission from the court to move and also they have to be married for one whole year before he can begin the adoption process. So they want to move the wedding up. Surprise!

@kareng Surprise indeed! I hope it all goes to plan. I'm sure there will still be quite a bit to plan and reorganise.

Much better than just being handed a gift. A few people swapped gifts too but everyone ended up happy.

Your getting a motorhome? I thought you just sold your caravan.

We sold the Prado and caravan and replaced them with a motor-home. I can drive this whereas towing the caravan was probably a bit beyond me. We're not doing the horse events so don't need the 4WD.

I must keep that in mind when I organise my next party. I like the idea of the left and right passing of gifts

That sure sounds like fun. Passing the gift is a fun twist to a simple gift giving event. Maybe I can use the idea or pass it on to someone who organizes these kind of things.
