I did not meet my grandparents until I was 15 years old. I was never really close to them. There was one that was really nice and always had candy in a candy bowl for us. Also he was nice and was a carpenter and made toys for my son. He made wooden blocks of different sizes and painted them different colors. He made some wooden animals and some wooden cars for him. I had all of those wooden toys for about 50 years and my grandchildren and some of my great grandchildren played with them.
That is one of the reasons I was really close to all of my grandchildren. They lived close to me. They were at my house all the time. I watched them on my days off and took them to all kinds of places with my three younger children.
Now the grandchildren that have children of their own come visit me as often as they can. One grandson joined the Army and another is a park ranger in the state of Washington.
I am glad I got to spend lots of time with all of them.

I know you will do it right. I met my Mom's Grandparents one time. They were really old I think I was 4 but you know how kids can just tell. My Grand dad was 98 and he was now blind. He was not happy. He seemed tired did not want to see us even if could not see, but that could be my moms doing because she made a lot of bad choices. You could feel the I am to old for this crap.
I met my step fathers grand parents a few times, they would get worse with time. They seemed all fun loving lets go fish in the Mississippi, showed the Christmas story, but would eventually get the feeling these not your children son and would not help us when we told her he beats her. That would be the last time we saw the fake grand parents.
That being said, treat the kids right so they do not end up like that. I know you a good one and your husband to the grand kids. Its important. Its the way to a better tomorrow.

i think you did a good job, i hope they're still visiting sometimes
i met all my grandparents, but i was closer with my dad's parents because we lived in the same city. i would spend my weekends at their place and during holidays, we'd spend a week or two at my other grandparent's place. they all had something interesting about them - my grandma would play with me, other grandma would tell me stories, one grandpa would always make food for me and other one would play cards with me. i loved them all and they're all special to me. now, i only have one grandma that lives near us and we are all really close

@jstory07 i'm glad she's still alive.
i'm still talking in present, but i'm not living near them anymore. and saying goodbye to my grandma the day before my flight was so sad. i always tell her "see you soon" when we're leaving and when i said that the last time - i realized that i'm not going to see her anytime soon. but at least we got video calls

My maternal grandparents were nice to me till I was teenager. They got me books , clothes and toys. I was their first grandchild. So I was pampered a lot. However, things do change especially when there are other grandchildren who stay closer and who are more fortunate. I was not very lucky from then on .Have not spoken to them for last 7 years. Not that I am at fault. They are in their 90s and struggling and their children are taking care of them and I have not been in touch with them and not been exactly cordial. I do have great memories and love for them. However, I am not in a position to meet them again or make amendments with their children. You are one lucky parent and grandparent. Enjoy the weekend!
