Went to my Lotto store today. Bought about $30 of tickets and won $70. Then went to Walmart. Tom wanted me to make my Mexican Lasagna, but I didn't have the Soft Bake Kit. No Electric Carts (so glad I took an Ibprofen before I left). They didn't have the Kit I needed, so I bought some flour tortillas, Old El Paso Seasoning, and some Fiesta Cheese. Bought some beer for Tom, and got a bag of my Mexican Street Corn Cheetos. That was it. Came home and I was playing my Bingo games when Tom was in the kitchen. I asked him what he was doing..he made the meat sauce for me. How sweet. All I had to do was put it all together and pop it in the oven. He did a good job. Supposed to go to a Christmas Party Sunday afternoon. Tom is making Sausage Balls to take. Can't wait to taste one. Using Red Lobster Biscuit mix. Hope everyone has a Wonderful Weekend.

If I make a Mexican lasagna, which I admit I rarely do, I make it from "scratch." Much cheaper and I think better, but that's just me. Glad you won some money with the lottery. I am always happy to win something back, but come on, I'm ready for the big one to hit in my favor. lol

The kit comes with tortillas that fit perfectly in my pyrex bowl. But I found some that were about the same size. A kit cost me $5.98 at the Most. I paid almost that much for the tortillas and it was a small bag. Then an additional $1.30 for Old El Paso Seasoning. Cost a little more, but works when they don't have the Kit. The Kit is called Old El Paso Soft Bake, but we have alwas called it Mexican Lasagna because of the layers of meat and cheese. I am more a Taco eater, not enough crunch in the lasagna.

@Ghostlady I guess I look at it like this. I can buy a package of 10 tortillas for under $2. The smaller ones, although I don't know how they compare to the ones you get. I also get taco seasoning packets for about 49 cents. I am just a hound when it comes to saving money, and 99% of the time it's cheaper when I make things myself. Not always the case. But most of time it turns out to be the case.

@Ghostlady I shop at several stores, but I also run my pantry like a business. I also do not go to multiple stores in one trip. Things going "out of stock" go onto a list. And I know where I get the items I need for the best price. So, when a trip to one store or the other is planned, it's according to which store has more items on the list I need to restock who has the best price. When an item goes on the list, it is not out completely. It's soon to be out, meaning there's no rush to replenish it right away. And when I do restock, I buy more than one depending on usage in order to ensure I am never forced to pay a single penny more for something just because I have allowed myself to need it sooner than normal. In order to save money, one must have an actual plan. It seems like your aunt was just flying by the seat of her pants, and in her case, she was probably wasting money trying to save money. My method actually saves money. lol To me, I am not saving anything if I don't take care of my pennies. If I spend 5 cents more on something thinking I am saving time, it's a bit of a mind trick, because now I have to do something with OTHER time to make back that 5 cents I overspent. In the end, I didn't save time either. I admit, I may be a bit extreme when it comes to this sort of thing. But I have money now for a reason, and that didn't happen by accident. If you don't mind your pennies, you can never expect to have dollars. Take kielbasa. It's $2.99 at Ruler and $2.98 at Aldi. I absolutely will NEVER pay the extra penny just because I am at Ruler and not Aldi. I will wait until I am at Aldi and buy three. In that way I never run out and I am never forced to pay more. When I am down to one left, it goes on the list.
