The world gets crazier by the day

Hello all, hope you are doing well.
I ran into something yesterday, I’m not sure it is everywhere but it is at my local Walmart.
First let me give you an idea of what I am about to complain about. I’m not sure where you are in the world, this is a thing. I know some countries are not big into tipping but here in the USA we are. You are expected to tip like servers in a restaurant, delivery drivers, basically service type workers but it is getting way out of hand now.
Not sure where it started to get out of hand but now, they have tip jars at places like gas stations to tip the workers who takes your money, carry out restaurants, all kinds of places where the workers barely do anything.
Yesterday I went into Walmart and was buying like 3 things so I went to the self-checkout line and in the process of paying the machine it asked if I would like to add a tip to the total. What in the world?
This is just going way too far, as I see it, they should pay me for ringing up my items. I just worked for them as a cashier. Why would I want to pay them more than I already am. Please for the love of God stop tipping for no reason.
These people who say it is to help them with their low paying job. I have an idea, go find a higher paying job. If all you do is ring me up and hand me my food, that is not worth tipping you. I certainly am not tipping machines that don’t need money.

The hell? I get there's overhead but the F here? I've been asked to donate to something before but tip at self-check out? Like we're not already spending an arm and leg.

@Bensen32 I know, right? I want to know where my money is going at the end of the day. Is this "tip meant to help cover overhead because they want to keep prices low, or is it something else?

I agree with you 100%! I hate those at places like that! We ran into one at a pizza place. The clerk just took our order. She didn't make or cook the pizza or serve it to us. She took the order. Nope, didn't leave a tip. I also see them at Subway.

Yes, A lot of places have them now and I'm always like, no way, for what? The crazier things is, a lot of them act as though I am interrupting their day just by walking up to the counter. Well with that attitude you certainly are not getting a tip from me.

I have noticed that one fast food place that sells pizza has a message to place a tip for good service on the pizza box or inside the store.

I think this needs some investigating. I do know Walmart employees are not supposed to accept tips in-store.
My neighbor likes Subway. She says that now the sandwich maker wants a tip, and you are prompted to add one. That's just ridiculous. And at gas stations...it's way out of hand.

I won't either. I just ignore it. It's way, way out of hand, and ridiculous.

That's insane! You're doing the work and they want a tip? I'd be tempted to whack the machine.

I see those tip jars here too. Though tipping isn't really ah huge thing here, we do it out of kindness and when we are satisfied with the service we received.

That's crazy. I will check my local Walmart and see if it happens here. I haven't been to our local Walmart lately.

i know that there are stores that ask for the tip but it counts as donation to some organizations or something. in Bosnia we have boxes for Red Cross or orphanages and organizations like that.
