The first flowering of my frangipani

We have friends who introduced us to the village and were really responsible for us moving here. They now live nine houses away from us. We have been friends for over 30 years. When we lived several hours’ drive away, we would stay with them if we had to come to Perth. Now we joke that we’re never asked to sleep over any more. The wife gave me a frangipani plant when we moved here and this year it’s had flowers for the first time. She planted a frangipani at her previous home when her first grandchild was born 23 years ago. My plant is from a cutting from that one.

Oh @judyev you’ve just catapulted me back to my childhood talking about frangipani. I can see it and smell it even though I left Africa 53 years ago today. I always get moody on this hard anniversary.

It always intrigues me how most of us hanker for our childhood home. And what a coincidence that I wrote about the frangipani today on the anniversary of you leaving Africa.

How pretty - it looks tropical! I love those "legacy" cuttings . . . you have another generation there .

My mother was a great gardener and she used to say that half the plants in her country town had come from her garden. She was always giving plants away to people.

I think it might be more of a tropical plant. I don't think it likes frost in which case it wouldn't like snow.

@JudyEv I have before, but not here. I tried one, but it didn't do well, I think it prefers hotter weather than we have in my area.

Amazing Flowers and in full bloom! Do they need any particular care? More or less water and any other special needs?
