I have a very tasteful butter cake and it's easy to remember. Just flour, butter, sugar and egg and each will be 180g. Last night I made it but I only used 100g butter. I assumed the result would be similar. I have to say that it's OK but of course it is not as great as using 180g butter. I can still tell the difference Sometimes the taste is still the most important.

I would think half the butter would change the cake a bit, but hey, if it still tasted good, that's all that counts.

Was your cake dry? I have to use more eggs as eggs these days are small

A little bit dry than the original butter cake. Perhaps this is because I used less butter.

There's no reason to bake something if you don't like the taste after it's done. Cakes are made to be delicious... If the right ingredients and amounts are used.

Sometimes when you change the amount of an ingredient, it alters the chemical reactions that happen during cooking. I often cut down the sugar but you can't cut it down too much or the cake flops.

Well, consider you did a little experiment - an early Christmas experiment and you figured the results. Now you know the outcome when the butter is less. For any cake , taste is the important criteria to have and if there is an issue there , then perhaps it is a red flag. The taste was fine but not great which is still fine. At times , doing certain experiments helps us to figure a few things and yes at times it leads to failures as well. Now you definitely would have keep an eye on the ingredients and their quantity used while baking or cooking. I believe thats can be managed by you. Well, have a wonderful day ahead!

You have another chance to make it right I know. I love it butter cake when there is icing, I haven't taste a butter cake that is moist and fluffy. So I want to eat it vanilla icing on top.
