Snow, trains and suitcases.

There’s snow on the East Antrim hills this morning: I can see it from the kitchen window while I watch the sunrise and listen to the kettle bubbling its little tune. The snow line is well above the town and won’t get any closer to us, but we can feel its icy influence. So today is a day of preparation for our little trip. Three days in frosty Edinburgh with one daughter then three days in soggy Manchester with another daughter. I hate packing. I only do it once, once is sufficient, but my wife packs at least five times per trip. Fortunately the train drivers’ strike has been postponed. We are due to take a train from Scotland to England on the 23rd which was to be a strike day, but they’ve moved it until the new year while they consider a new pay deal offered by management. Had the strike proceeded this would have been most inconvenient as no airline flies from Edinburgh to Manchester. I just hope the weather allows us to fly tomorrow. I’m going to pack now.

It sounds like a beautiful but chilly morning—there’s something magical about watching snow from the warmth of home while the kettle hums away. Your upcoming trip sounds exciting, even if packing isn’t the most enjoyable part. I can relate to that—I’m very much a “one and done” packer too, while others seem to treat it as an evolving art form!

I'm in the same situation. Chicago is notorious for huge snowstorms and it is December and close to Christmas. I just have to fly in there on Sunday, have a layover, and fly out to Montreal, Canada where the really long flight takes off from Montreal to New Delhi. I'm just hoping for no snow in Chicago and Montreal so that I can make my connections and head to India.
