Inventions and those who invented them sure made life a lot easier. Can you imagine where we would be without them. Throughout history these inventors have used their ideas and creativity to develop a process or device many of which we still use today.
If you had to choose what you consider to be the best inventions ever created what would they be?
Here are 3 major ones I would put right up there as major advancements. And they are still important today.
1. Airplane- as far as taking travel to the next level after cars to get somewhere faster the invention of the airplane accomplished that purpose. It brought the world closer together by allowing us to travel great distances. We can thank the Wright Brothers and other inventors of aerial devices who dreamt about and then developed these flying machines.
2. Penicillin- When you are very sick this invention would be prescribed by your doctor as a treatment. Penicillin definitely transformed the medical world. Discovered by the Scottish scientist Alexander Fleming in 1928, this drug changed medicine by its ability to cure infectious bacterial diseases. It began the era of antibiotics.
3. Electricity/Light Bulb- Although we can credit many inventors with contributions to the concept of electricity many would agree Thomas Edison was able to harness those ideas into a practical invention, the light bulb. Edison developed a lighting system which removed our dependence on natural light and allowed us to be productive any time of day. With the invention of artificial light, it allowed people to, as Donna Summer would say, "to enjoy the nightlife."
So, let's put on your thinking caps on and add some more inventions.

@dgobucks226 I remember writing so many letters in the 60s. Now I still send cards; but most of my communication is through Facebook and emails.

Some great picks we rely on and use for our pleasure. The telephone allowed for near-instantaneous communication to people far away. Along with PC's/Internet it revolutionized the way we could communicate with others.
Yes, radios, record players, cassettes, DVDs, and audio file downloads all made listening to your favorite music in different formats possible. I still use my cassette player (hasn't broken down yet).
Additional inventions: "email" has nearly made letter writing obsolete as a form of communication. Other music related inventions are the Walkman, Air pods, and Dolby Surround Sound.
Other inventions one might not think of: Calculators, Zoom, Amazon Prime, and YouTube.

@dgobucks226 what I cannot understand is two friends a mother and daughter who live in NYC, The daughter absolutely refuses to acknowledge anything to do with the Internet. Meanwhile, she is busy with Avon products and when she is delivering the mom would love to have contact over the Internet, Nothing doing there, Now I lost my Textnow account which I used for calling because I have not miblie phone. Anyway when I could not call my friends I sent out a Christmas card to them, Now I am getting no response and I am wondering what's up, How easy it would have been just to find out through the Internet,

@RasmaSandra I don't know how one could get by without using the internet and cell phones. I did try for a long time until just about everything you want to do requires it to some degree. Definitely would be a handicap without them. As modern inventions go, they have become priceless to people.

Yes, me too. It may not be the most iconic invention, but it is definitely up there as one of the most convenient!
You could add a refrigerator to the kitchen appliance list too. Although it's been around for some time, imagine having to preserve food with just ice as they did before. I remember when hurricane Sandy blew out all the power leaving me to run get ice to save some of my food.

@1creekgirl Several days at least 4. Had to stay with relatives whose power came back in a day. My Dad who lived closer to the shoreline, was without power for over 1 week. Fortunately, someone lent him a generator.

Aha, what would kids do to get somewhere quick without their bikes.
Good one! That's putting the invention of the wheel to good use.
Computers opened up a whole new world of communication along with the iPhone. Who doesn't use a PC or cell phone today. It's a must!
Yes, the typewriter made writing much more legible and invaluable to the business world. You can also put the Xerox machine as helpful tool to companies.
Other interesting inventions: paper, printing press, Corrective Lenses (glasses), and gunpowder.

however, i would add telephones, cameras and antibiotics.

Electricity runs so many of our appliances and gadgets. When a storm knocks out power, we realize just how important it is to have. Definitely a major discovery! AC is one of those gadgets that uses electricity and has made living in summer heat much more comfortable.
Cars were a major innovation and changed the way we traveled replacing the horse and buggy and allowing use to eventually travel great distances in a shorter amount of time. Great pick and one most cannot do without today!
Some other notable inventions to travel are steam engine, which helped power trains, ships and factories and helped bring on the Industrial Revolution. The wheel which got transportation started in the first place.

Yes, the wheel the beginnings of transportation. Once they figured out how to attach a wheel to an axle things really got "rolling" (pardon the pun
).
Wheeled carts facilitated agriculture and commerce by enabling the transportation of goods to and from markets, as well as easing the burdens of people travelling great distances. Now, wheels are vital to our way of life, found in everything from clocks to vehicles to turbines.
Electricity runs so many of our appliances and gadgets. From light bulbs, electric heaters, refrigerators, computers, smartphones, washing machines, microwaves and trains. Gee what don't we plug into an outlet to use, not too many things unless you want to use up your "batteries," another terrific invention.
Other popular inventions include iPhone, printing press, and compass.
