After Decades I Did It!

I stayed in bed until 8 a.m !. Usually my awake and out of bed time is between 5 and 6 a.m every day of the week - which means weekends and holidays. This has been my sleep pattern for over 2 decades - l don't like staying in bed and l don't like daytime sleeping either. However, yesterday l decided to try remaining in bed just to see how l would feel - BORING - l won't be trying it again in a hurry - unless l am very sick. What is your sleep pattern ? Do you ever change it up ?

I am a night owl. I go to bed at midnight or even later. Wake up at 9:00 am. I usually take a 15-30 min afternoon nap everyday.

It is not hard for me to get up early, but generally I prefer staying in bed where it is warm and comfortable until about 8:00 or 8:30. If I can get some extra sleep while I am lying there it is better.

So did you actually sleep until 8? I just can't do it. I am up early like you - everyday - with no alarm or anything - my body just tells me it's time to get up. Right - I think it's boring too.

@Kandae11 I'd just want to jump out of bed and get going with my day . . . I can't even sit still on the couch to watch anything on tv. I think like you mentioned in your post, I'd have to be sick to stay in bed.

No l didn't sleep. I didn't know what to do with myself - - that's why l said it was boring . Just in case l ever do that again l should keep my crochet apparatus close by....

I am in and out of my bed off and on day and night. I take morning meds between 5 and 6 am and eat something (The meds can make me sick if I don't eat after taking them) and then go to sleep for between 2 and 4 hours before waking up to use the bathroom... Then I'm awake again until sometime in the afternoon. I may or may not be in bed reading, watching movies/YouTube videos or in the kitchen cutting up veggies or cooking until around 6 pm when I take my evening meds and eating a small meal with them. (Pretty wakes up around 5 pm and clocks in to "work" around the house either playing online or helping me if I can't see that day.) Then I fall asleep for 2 to 4 hours and wake up to go to the bathroom. Between 10 pm and midnight, I usually cook our evening meal, wash dishes and clean the kitchen counters. Then I go online again or read until I doze off for a while... It's not really a schedule but I don't have to be awake at any certain time or do anything I don't feel like doing.

@Kandae11 I loved working nightshift before Pretty was born but after her mom and I started getting divorced, the judge made me switch to day shift so I was home when she was home. Then I never switched back, even after she started school. Pretty has never worked a real job. She's paid by Medicaid to help me when I can't see. She clocks in for 3 hours a day and, when I can't see, she'll microwave something for me to eat from the meals I've cooked and put in the freezer or she'll make sandwiches for me. (She can and does cook but she usually just cooks for herself. I don't like most of the things she makes.) Thanks but doctors have already said my eyes will never get better but will gradually get worse as I get older. (I have Graves' Disease and my eyes swell shut for few days to a week at a time. And that is with me taking meds for it every morning.)

@DaddyEvil Where there is life there is hope , don't call it quits just yet. Who knows, scientists could come up with a cure soon. I must read up on Graves disease. They should come up with a way to reopen them once they swell shut - that must be scary not knowing when they will reopen. You have a wonderful caring daughter.

this is how i read that BORING: https://www.tiktok.com/@caryscookes/video/7404449698431421728 if waking up at 5-6 works for you, i don't think you should change it. i get more things done when i wake up early. i'm waking up around6:20 during work days and on weekends i also wake up early, but sometimes go back to bed.

I have been my own boss for over 20 years. What you are doing is the best for you. Retirement means you get to do what and when you want to do it.

Good to know you found it boring. I've always been an early riser. As a child, I tried to out sleep my sister. It never worked. I get between four and six hours of sleep depending on how tired I am when I go to bed. Last night it was almost six hours.

I sleep from around 11- 6 mostly on weekdays and weekends 11.30 - 7 . I love the weekends for the time I have to myself with respect to sleep. There are times I would love to stay at bed , but with the things I have and engaged with , finding time is a challenge. In fact , I am working to be more productive and that needs to be improvised well and there are things to be achieved as far as my short term goals are concerned. Sometimes , the most refreshed and relaxed mind and body can do better and best. On wekdays , achieving that is tough. I too do not like day time sleeping , which I do if I am extremely sick. Good to know your sleep pattern. Enjoy your time!1

I find that l get much more done if l have an early start to my day. Time is too short to spend a lot of it in bed.

I don’t sleep well so I do lay there often trying to sleep and can’t. My body starts to get achy in the morning if I kay there to long trying. Then when I do get up I see all the time I wasted that I could have done something else.

After years of shift working, my sleep is fairly regular. Not often I get a lie in as the moggies demand breakfast
