small biz business

Solstice is here tomorrow. I guess I was mean to Moxe pup. I grabbed Rufus and took him for a ride to the next little town over from me. I bought some little cakes- petite fours- and a raspberry tart from the bakery over there. And dog bones that somebody had made. The little cakes are adorable. Square with pink and green frosting, some striped. The salmon smokehouse was next door to the bakery. I bought some smoked salmon there. That business promotes other small businesses so while I was there I snooped in what looked like a farmer's market. I found a small Santa face ornament that was made by a local pottery company. Charming little guy. On the way home I stopped at another place, this one mostly a Farmer's Stand kind of place. Oh my Jonagold apples!! Perfect for the Christmas pie that I will be making soon. Tart sweet apples. And kielbasa and a couple of all beef hot dogs cause I haven't had a hot dog in forever. The fun of shopping in small businesses is being able to take a moment to chat with people. They know their product; they know who made the product, sometimes themselves, they know where it came from. The lady with the kielbasa insisted on helping me take the bag to the car. She met Rufus and told me about her dogs. Moments like that bring on the holiday cheer and humanness. The photo should show my Christmas tree- or the bottom of it , anyway and the gifts from daughter. Just brown little cartons but painted with her lovely cheer on them.

@aureategloom We're all human. I'd rather speak with a stranger human than a robot. Thanks.

You are also getting a better product (as well as service) through a small business! The packages are cute that your daughter painted and decorated!

@sallypup I love to pop in the small boutiques here. They put their clothing on sale for 50-65% off. That's a nice discount!

@kareng Sweet. I have had the thrill of one of my books selling. I hope the folks who made the little ornament will get a similar buzz from my purchase.

@kareng Thanks. I am in total agreement with you. Walmart is just across the freeway from where I shop. I have been there once in the almost three years that I have lived here.

Your daughter is so talented those paintings on them look adorable! I love small businesses that sell other peoples art and things. They are so nice to browse through and see so much talent.

What I can see of your tree looks lovely. Our Christmas presents were always wrapped in brown paper. There was no money to waste on wrapping paper. Even now I like brown paper parcels.
