Kantha quilts

My lead teacher bought us each a Kantha quilt for Christmas. I am hoping that we will have a discussion about them from those of you who are familiar. I know these are not authentic, but I love mine anyway. It is so funny as I had just been reading about them online. Thinking I would like to try one sometime. The craft of making Kantha quilts is from East India?, or Bangladesh? and it is a domestic art of making coverlets or quilts from old garments. They are not filled with batting and they are held together with long stitches. I am hoping I am explaining this right. Hopefully some people who know the authentic craft will talk to us here. Mine has a pretty gold color on most of the back. The front is varying shades of gold and blue and teal and a little red. I am not sure where Ellen got them, but it is a thoughtful gesture I will enjoy.

Lots and lots of quilts here, including barn quilts which are actually painted on wood and hung on the barns or fences.

It is like those fleece blankets in size. Not huge, but very comfy.

Yes, as soon as I saw these I knew what they were. It has no batting or wadding in it, just layers and layers of muslin.

I'll need to research these. My Mum would make patchwork quilts using old clothing.
