Christmas plans with the most wonderful people

I’m almost ready for Christmas. I had almost everything bought but found out on Christmas Eve we have a party to go to at my in-laws from my first marriage. It’ll cost me more for a gift for them but it’s so nice to still be included after my first marriage failed. They even include my second husband and our little girl and my stepson. I couldn’t be luckier.
My stepson was supposed to be flying in on Christmas Eve. That’s what he wanted for a gift. I told my husband the ticket was too costly and to just tell him we couldn’t afford it but he wouldn’t. So he paid $700 for a one way ticket to get him home and two nights ago we got a late night text that he is riding home with another soldier on the 21st and to cancel the plane. Well the ticket couldn’t be refunded but my stepson got a credit so he can buy a ticket with it over the next year to go somewhere IF he can get time off from the marines.
He will be arriving home sometime tomorrow and will be doing RA duty so he will have to report in to the office daily over the 10 days he is home. I wish it was just a relaxing break for him. Not sure if he will be able to ride in daily or if my husband will have to drive him there. If he does it’ll wind up be 120 miles a day. I look forward to seeing him and was excited he was supposed to be here tonight but there is a delay so we will see him tomorrow.
My oldest daughter’s boyfriend is so sweet and so is his family. Christmas brunch is at my sister on laws and then Christmas dinner is at my mothers. So my daughters boyfriends family is doing their Christmas meal the day after Christmas so my daughter can attend all of the gatherings. Who would do that? Such amazing kind people! My kids and I are all so lucky for the people will have in our lives. I really hope other people look at us and feel the same way.
Photo is of a decoration my husband bought. It was quite plain so I added some silver ting ting, little fairy led lights and some ornaments. It’s not as nice as I could make it but I just went with things I had instead of going out and buying more stuff.

Hopefully, your husband and stepson are smart enough to know they should be grateful you don’t smack them upside the head.
It really is sweet the way the family of your daughter’s boyfriend decided to include her. And also that your first husband’s family includes your second husband and his son with you in the invitation.

@AmbiePam my husband said he didn’t see insurance offered but I think with him drinking he just forgot to add it. That is one expensive mistake on my stepson and husbands end. That could have been used to fill our oil tank to heat our home for a few months. I can think of a lot better ways that money could have been spent since it’s probably unlikely my stepson will be able to use that credit but I hope he can it would be so much worse for that money to just go to waste.
My daughter is so lucky his family is so kind.

It's the fact you have him home at all which is good.

@kaylachan when he left in September we didn’t think we would see him for a very long time. We are very excited to get to see him so soon. It will be nice to have all four of our kids here on Christmas.

@shaggin Yeah. so doing a check-in is nothing compared to not having him at all.

@snowy22315 a lot of holidays have been so hard with my husband so I’m really hoping things go well this year. It’s hard to have so many bad memories in my head all the time. I’m looking forward to a lovely bunch of days and crossing my fingers.,

It is so nice when there are a lot of family members. I just have my daughter, my grandson, my granddaughter, and, her two kids.
It is good to use what you have. Things are so expensive nowadays. Happy holidays.

@RasmaSandra I’m worried he I’d going to buy a ring for his girlfriend while he is on leave. We have heard that is what he plans to do and it’s a terrible idea. Other than that I am looking forward to him being home.
