Unwanted Phone Calls: A Funny for You

We have been getting a lot more unwanted phone calls this month and I suppose that is due to the holiday season. The scammers are active and trying to get into your wallet. I usually don't answer phone calls from unknown phone numbers. But recently, I have been picking up on one or two. The last one I answered went like this: Me: Hello Caller: Is this xyz? Me: HELLO! I can't hear you. (There was a lot of background noise like a call center) Caller: Is this xyz? Me: This is not xyz and I have had this phone number for over 25 years. Caller: This is not xyz? I'm trying to reach xyz? Me: Nope! Go back to when I said Hello. My hubby says, "What?" He didn't hear my phone ring. And he still didn't realize it through the whole conversation and says, "Will you answer me??" That had me laughing before I hung up with the caller. Strange thing was that the noise stopped in the background after I said that I couldn't hear him. So it was obviously a call from a call center. Are you getting more unsolicited phone calls right now? Photo Credit: Pixabay, Public Domain

A few calls from persons who claim to be asking me for money for the holidays which I hang up or tell them "No.'

I get spam calls in fits and starts. When I get them I always ignore them and then ask my hubby to block the caller.

@Juliaacv I only pick up every now and then. I usually leave my volume down or off unless I am expecting a call.

That doesn't work, they just call back from a different number.

@kareng I know, but it is my little attempt to feel like I am winning. And as long as I do not pick up I am winning. But here it is usually a single person calling, there are no noises in the background necessarily.

My hubby does that too. He doesn't always see me answer the phone. They seem to be calming down now for me

I hope they take a break after Christmas! But then they will probably be wild then with the end of the year and trying to make their quotas.

The lady who actually got me to buy a cell phone (it still works) had a rooster crowing in the background. We shared a laugh. I said, "Are you calling from the Philippines?"

@TheHorse They will also crow whenever they hear something alarming. We hear ours sometimes at 1 am. I assume they hear some animal there at the edge of the woods.

Haha, that’s a classic mix-up! It’s always funny when someone’s caught off guard, especially when they’re totally oblivious to the phone ringing. I can just picture the confusion on your husband’s face. ??

It was funny. I was trying to get him to look at me to see the phone in my hand, but that didn't happen either.

My phone automatically blocks suspected spam callers. This has resulted in a Doordash driver or two having to text me because my phone sees them as spam, and hangs up on them after one ring. That would have been funny to witness.

That is cool when a legit spammer, but I can see where it could be a problem with Doordash!!

Not really my phone alerts me to spam, and I don't answer. A few times of that usually extinguishes them.

I get calls from the "Police" and "Immigration Department". One can easily make out they are from Call Centers.

George has been getting voicemails from people claiming to help us with tax requests. We didn't reach out to any, and maybe I'll hear his phone ring or I don't. Sometimes I forget to charge it or check it when he wants to call family. But, I've been getting text messages from people who claim to be from USPS. And, I don't know how people fall for this scam. First of all, scammers aren't hiding their number isn't even a u.s. number. Secondly, they use the word Parcel, and third the English isn't very good. addationally , they know that you can't interact with the link unless you reply to them and then go back into your text messages (iphone) so it always has that instruction (in better English mind you then the body of the text) Hell, my phone alerted me Amazon opened my garage, and I checked my app for upcoming deliveries. sure enough I had an autop shipment coming. So yeah.
