Here I sit, plonked down in the midst of the Christmas insanity at the home of my daughter and her family where it’s all Christmas a-go-go at 90 miles an hour. I betook myself to the bathroom for a while to compose myself and have a quiet, civilised chat with the toilet, but its strong Mancunian accent is hard to understand. I was a bit baffled last night when I adjourned to bed and discovered that I would be slumbering under an orange and pink mosquito net. But why, I asked? The net, I’m told, is to prevent various cats that lurk in the house from climbing into bed with me. Odd system. Cat got in anyway and snuggled up beside me. Now I’m having mince pies for breakfast.
