Popcorn Buckets

In recent years Disney has started offering collectible popcorn buckets at its theme parks. Some of them are just so-so, but a few of them are pretty awesome. I'm not a popcorn bucket collector by any means, but I will buy one if I see one that I like. And besides, when you buy the collector buckets, Disney gives you popcorn refills for only $2. A bargain in terms of Disney prices. I recently picked up a Monsters Inc. Christmas popcorn bucket, featuring Sully in a Santa hat carrying a Monsters Inc. ornament in one hand, and carrying a Santa sack over his shoulder in the other hand. Mike Wazowski is popping his head out of the sack and peering over Sully's shoulder. I couldn't resist picking one up to take home. Would you buy a souvenir popcorn bucket at Disney to take home if you saw an adorable one you liked?

Well, I’d have to go to Disney to see it, right? And, like I said the last time I was in Florida, I spent less money in eleven state parks over two weeks than I would in two days at Disney. If they have one with Br’er Rabbit holding an E ticket I’ll grab that in a heartbeat.

Maybe someday they'll offer a Br'er Rabbit popcorn bucket, and I'll buy you one to send to you!

@FourWalls We caught some of the Disney fireworks on New Years Eve on television. I think it was from Disneyland though, not really sure. I was at my daugher's house and didn't really pay attention to the channel.

@kareng I'm sure both Disneyland and Disney World had very similar firework shows for New Years Eve,

My sister and brother-in-law picked one up for Amyra (my oldest niece) the first year they took her to Disney World. I can’t remember what it was of, but that was nine years ago, and she still has it in her room at home. Is there such a thing as a Disney key? Like you have to have one to buy certain items?

@moffittjc Maybe that’s what the guy meant. My sister and her family were in line at Disney World, and they saw this amazing bag. They wanted to buy it for my oldest niece, but the employee said only people who had (what I thought was a “key”) what must have been a special pass could buy it. A guy behind her said he had one, and he might as well put it to good use, and let them use his to buy the bag. Disney knows how to do it right. That “bag” was not a bag. It was a masterpiece.

@AmbiePam I’ve always wondered if they refuse a sale to a non-passholder. It’s good to see that they do. Those deals are part of the perks of being a passholder. But, with that being said, I would have been like the guy behind her and offered to use my passholder ID to let her make the purchase.

No, there’s no such thing as a Disney key, but they do have a lot of special merchandise and collectibles that only passholdersv can purchase.

Oh that one is adorable, and yes, would get one if I liked it. It would be worth it for the $2 refills, especially if you went to Disney often!

@snowy22315 I just looked on eBay at the Sully popcorn bucket I just bought (I paid $24), and they are selling for between $55-$90

The souvenir buckets range in price from about $20-$24, but like you said, the $2 refills makes it worth it. Many people who buy these souvenir buckets will end up re-selling them on eBay for much higher prices, as they can be in big demand depending on the popcorn bucket. And since they are collectibles, they are only available for a limited time.

Disney puts out some pretty neat designs on their souvenir popcorn buckets, but I don’t buy them just to have a collection. It has to be something that really speaks to me, like this one did.

Something like that I would buy. But not for the popcorn refills, but to use it in another way, as we do not live near Florida. I think that it would make a really cute flower planter.

Yes, it would make a good flower planter! The opening is in the top, behind Sully’s head. That would be a great use for it if you can’t use it for popcorn.

Probably not. I don't like popcorn... Although Pretty does like it but if I had to carry the bucket around, then she couldn't have it...

@moffittjc We used to buy the Silver Dollar City glass mugs for the $1 refills. We'd share the mug and I'd hook the strap of my fanny pack through the handle so I could be hands-free as we walked through the city. And that didn't look strange at all, I'm sure. Pretty is doing fine, thanks. And nope, we stay home and safe from all the idiots on the roads. Happy New Year!

That’s the worst part of those souvenir buckets, having to carry them around with you at the theme parks. How’s Pretty doing? You two have anything special planned for New Year’s Eve?

I only have a few. I love popcorn, but I don’t really have space at home to store a collection of popcorn buckets. I liked this particular one because it was Christmas themed, so I can set it out each year as a decoration or table piece during the holidays.

They come up with so many wonderful designs for their souvenir buckets, that I’m sure there is something for everyone. But when they release new designs, they don’t stick around for very long, which is why they are highly collectible.
