At last, a wonderful meal. Am I too fussy?

It was to a Japanese restaurant that we repaired for luncheon today. I had chicken katsu ramen which was so deeply comforting. The broth was excellently prepared and spicy, just the ticket for a nippy day like today. The waiters were somewhat gauche though. One made a day’s work out of filling the water jug with … water, and seemed very unsure of himself and what he was doing. The other didn’t know how to take a food order and kept coming back to check that he’d got it right. Maybe that was a good thing, but a refresher course at waitering school would not go amiss. But they were very pleasant and deserved the tip I left. Such a good meal, and inexpensive.

Sounds like maybe they were new employees? At least they were pleasant and you enjoyed your chicken katsu ramen meal - yummmmm!

Years ago, we regularly frequented a Chinese restaurant that employed older school kids. The food was good but the service was hilariously bad. We loved those kids.

@judyev My mother used to go to a cafe staffed by young people with Down’s Syndrome. One day she was there with her oversized friend who ordered cake and the girl told her “No you can’t have cake - you’re too fat. You can just have a cup of tea”.

@looeyville Oh you must be going to all the wrong places. Try the buffet at the Ashoka in New Delhi - a sumptuous repast, at least it was in 1978 when I was cheeky enough to charge it to Aeroflot and swan off imperiously.
