12/30/24 - Update On My Husband

Went to see my husband yesterday. We had Personal Pan Pizzas from Pizza Hut. He was pretty lucid and didn't want me to leave.
My husband's phone was charged and it was within reach. He still doesn't call me daily like he used to. He has no explanation for why or why he doesn't answer the phone when I call. Anytime he has the phone turned on I try to call. I will need more assistance from the staff to get in touch with him...but they need to answer the phone.
He claims that he hasn't had a shower since he was moved to this new wing. I can't always trust what he says; but I will call the social worker about that, the cost of physical therapy and if he can be seen by a doctor for his confusion.

You do understand if a doctor confirms he's lucid and capable of making decisions, he can come home if that's what he wants? He can't be held against his will. That being said, if that's true, about the shower, that's neglect and you need to either reconsider getting a doctor on board to get home health started or find elsewhere to put him.

Unfortunately the only other place that will take him that isn't rated very badly is the last place he was in. The place he really likes won't take long term residents.

I don't like when there's a week between contacts. Only seeing him once a week is hard. I wish he would start calling again.

Sometimes when one is not feeling well answering the phone could be bothersome. When I was confined due to covid answering phone is so tiring. I hope your husband recovers fully and he can lead a normal activity soon. Wishing you a Happy New Year.

@LindaOHio — the problem is that you probably won’t reach anyone, with this being New Year’s Eve and the holiday in the middle of the week.

I'm sure having some non-hospital facility food is a welcome change for him. Has your husband undergone a brain imaging test to see the extent of his memory impairment?
Perhaps it could provide some clarity.

He needs to see a doctor about his confusion. I've asked the social worker for possibly a visit from the staff doctor to start.

If the shower is different from what he remembers, it is not a shower to him. He does, of course, lose track of days. Ask the social worker about the activities department. They really should make sure to meet you.
