1 January 2025 - What I'm Thankful for Today

Good evening from cold Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA. The temperature on my computer shows 23 F. When I woke up this morning, it was snowing, making it the perfect way to start the new year. I have so much to be thankful for today. A month ago, I put out fliers on each floor for an open house to celebrate the new year. I have an open house every year whether people come or not. Last year was my first good turnout. This year people asked me if I was going to do my open house again and then told me they were coming. I'm thankful for the wonderful turnout for the open house today. I had many people come and I have pictures to prove it. I only need to download them. I'll do that tomorrow. I'm thankful for my granddaughter, who gave me the best New Year's present I could want. She called to wish me a Happy New Year and ask if I would buy her a Bible. Absolutely. She even texted me with the Bible she wants. It's a wonderful Bible. I have it in the cart on Amazon. I'll order it for her on payday. I'm thankful for my two friends who helped me a lot with the open house today. My next-door neighbor made ham and my friend down the hall cut the ham. I know nothing about cutting ham. I don't eat ham. I'm thankful for the last-minute trip to the store this morning. I forgot a few things last night. One was toothpicks. I almost didn't find them. Even the store clerks couldn't find them where they should have been, but weren't. I found them, with their help, hanging on a product strip next to the shelves. I'm thankful my brother and his wife came to my open house. It was the first time he came in all the years I've had it. I'm thankful I had enough and more than enough food for everyone. Now, I need to buy a pot roast so I can eat the left over veggies. The biggest hits were the pretzel Rolo treats and my punch. I had a large punchbowl filled almost to the brim. It was more than half gone by the time the party was winding down. I'm thankful for the help my next-door neighbor gave me in cleaning up and putting the food away. I was halfway through the cleanup when more people came. It was round two of the party and just as enjoyable as the beginning of the party. I had twenty people come to my open house. It was cozy in my one-bedroom apartment, and I had enough chairs and a couple of people didn't mind standing. I'm thankful I didn't need to push to get my steps today. I did it without thinking about it. I'm wearing my Fitbit again. I haven't worn it in several years. I made my 10K goal with the Fitbit and got over 8K on the pedometer app. I'm monitoring three apps now. If I'm going to go on a family vacation in March, I need to do what I can to lose weight and eat healthy. Okay, that's my fun day. It was a lot of work and well worth it. Now, it's time for bed. I've been awake since 5. I know it seems late because I get up a lot earlier. However, I did ring in the New Year and didn't get to bed until after midnight. I have an earlier start tonight. What are you thankful for today? Happy New Year. The image belongs to me. Me and a friend who came to my open house today. This was taken at a retreat we went to in September.

I'm thankful we got through the new year in once peace. I'm thankful George and I could celbrate it in our house. I'm thankful I actually got the dish washer going. I know it's a little late, but it'll get done soon enough. Not what I thought I'd be doing this time at night, but here we are. I also have to squeeze in laundry. But, if you stop to think about it, it's all getting done. I'm thankful things seem to be improving for George. Or, at least I can hope they are.

Your open house sounds like it was very successful! I'm glad you and your friends and family members had fun and enjoyed it! I am thankful for a safe trip home traveling today. So many accidents reported in the news that it just makes you not want to drive anywhere. Now I need to find the energy to prepare for this Vortex system coming down our way. I need to get the house doggy ready! We will have 5-7 nights in the low 20's so big dog comes inside.

@just4him Brrr, that's way too cold for me!! Starting Sunday we will have low 20's and big dog will be inside every night for about 7 nights it looks like. He's usually good, so hoping he remembers that he needs to be a good boy!! The first night every year is always the hardest. He will want to stay up all night and play!!

@kareng I hope he's not one of those who makes noise all night long. My border tried that on me until I went nose to nose with him in his kennel when I first got him. I asked him if he liked his vocal cords. He never barked again after that when I went to bed.

I think we got to our high for the day, 20 F. My phone says 19. We'll be in single digits for the low. We had snow flurries this morning. Good idea bringing the dog inside tonight.

I always make sure to leave a "to do" spot on my list that says "forget all of the above." It's very useful.

You did a wonderful thing on thing this day. I am happy that it went so well for you. More people need to do things like this. I am thankful that I wake up every morning and don't take things for granted. It was a very peaceful day for me. I am also thankful that my health is improving and that both of my sons are doing well.
