Day 349 – Rebellion
2 Kings 24:1 In his days King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon came up, and Jehoiakim became his vassal for three years. Then he turned and rebelled against him.
2 JEHOVAH sent against him raiding bands of Chaldeans, bands of Syrians, bands of Moabites, and bands of the people of Ammon; He sent them against Judah to destroy it, according to the word of JEHOVAH which He had spoken by His servants the prophets. 3 At the commandment of JEHOVAH this came upon Judah, to remove them from His sight because of the sins of Manasseh, according to everything he did, 4 and because of the innocent blood he had shed; for he had filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, which JEHOVAH would not pardon.
5 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoiakim, and everything he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 6 Thus, Jehoiakim rested with his fathers. Then Jehoiachin his son reigned in his place.
7 The king of Egypt did not come out of his land anymore, for the king of Babylon had taken everything belonging to the king of Egypt from the Brook of Egypt to the River Euphrates.
8 Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he became king and reigned in Jerusalem for three months. His mother’s name was Nehushta, the daughter of Elnathan of Jerusalem. 9 He did evil in the sight of JEHOVAH, according to everything his father did.
10 At that time the servants of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came against Jerusalem and besieged the city. 11 Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came against the city, as his servants besieged it.
12 Then Jehoiachin king of Judah, his mother, his servants, his princes, and his officers went out to the king of Babylon; and the king of Babylon, in the eighth year of his reign, took him prisoner. 13 He carried out from there the treasures of the house of JEHOVAH and the treasures of the king’s house, and he cut in pieces the articles of gold which Solomon king of Israel had made in the temple of JEHOVAH, as JEHOVAH had said. 14 Also, he carried into captivity everyone in Jerusalem: the captains and the mighty men of valor, ten thousand captives, and the craftsmen and smiths. None remained except the poorest people of the land. 15 He carried Jehoiachin captive to Babylon. The king’s mother, the king’s wives, his officers, and the mighty of the land he carried into captivity from Jerusalem to Babylon. 16 The valiant men, seven thousand, and craftsmen and smiths, one thousand, everyone who were strong and fit for war, these the king of Babylon brought captive to Babylon.
17 Then the king of Babylon made Mattaniah, Jehoiachin’s uncle, king in his place, and changed his name to Zedekiah. 18 Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned for eleven years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Hamutal, the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah. 19 He also did evil in the sight of JEHOVAH, according to everything Jehoiakim had done.
20 For because of the anger of JEHOVAH this happened in Jerusalem and Judah, that He finally cast them out from His presence. Then Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.
God’s names:
JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
Yeshuwa – Jesus
Theos – Supreme Divinity
God’s character:
Judge
Why do bad things happen to you? Why do you spend your entire life in chaos and trouble? Who do you blame for your trouble?
JEHOVAH’S anger against His people came to a head. He sent prophets to them, but they wouldn’t listen and continued to sin. JEHOVAH gave them every opportunity to change their lives and turn to Him. It worked for a short time. Judah had a few good kings who served JEHOVAH, but the next generation followed the sins of their fathers who sinned and rebelled against JEHOVAH. Finally, JEHOVAH had no choice but to send countries against Judah to destroy it and take Judah into captivity to Babylon.
JEHOVAH sent Israel to Egypt to save them from starvation. They were seventy souls who went to Egypt. They were an army of souls when He brought them out of Egypt with Moses leading them into the wilderness where JEHOVAH gave them the Ten Commandments and the Law and told them He would bless them if they obeyed Him. However, Israel rebelled in the wilderness and remained wandering in the wilderness for forty years. When JEHOVAH brought them out of the wilderness into the Promised Land, again they rebelled and sinned against Him. He brought countries against them to bring them back to obedience to Him. Again, it worked for a short time as He placed judges over them. However, time after time, Israel rebelled against JEHOVAH. He sent prophets and told them what would happen if they continued to sin and rebel against Him. Finally, Israel and Judah left Him no choice but to bring Nebuchadnezzar against them and take them captive to Babylon. Assyria took Israel, and Nebuchadnezzar took Judah. Would His people get the message and return to Him?
How long did it take before you accepted Yeshuwa, JEHOVAH’S Son, as Savior and Lord? What was your life like before? How has your life changed since you accepted Yeshuwa and received salvation? Did you remain faithful to Him, or did you rebel against Him and do what you wanted with your life instead of what Yeshuwa wanted from you?
JEHOVAH loved the world so much that He sent His Son, Yeshuwa into the world to redeem it from sin, and bring you into a right relationship with Him and show you, His salvation.
John 3:16 “For Theos so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For Theos did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
John 1:11 He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. 12 However, as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of Theos, to those who believe in His name; 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of Theos.
Children rebel against authority. It’s what they do. However, discipline usually causes them to become obedient and know the love their parents have for them. When you accepted Yeshuwa as Savior and Lord, you tested your boundaries as His child. When you did, He gently brought you back into a right relationship with Him. However, when you continued to rebel, you left Him with little choice but to bring trouble your way until you realized your sin against Him.
Yeshuwa loves you. JEHOVAH loves you. There is nothing He wouldn’t do for you and did with His death on the cross and His resurrection from death for your salvation. Yeshuwa did everything He could to bring you salvation. Why resist Him and rebel against Him? What do you gain from disobedience? Hardship.
Israel and Judah tested their boundaries with their disobedience until JEHOVAH could do nothing more but to send them into captivity.
Where does your life stand with Yeshuwa? Are you faithful to Him or in rebellion with Him? Do you blame Theos for the trouble you’re in or do you realize you caused your trouble and Yeshuwa wants you to return to Him? Yeshuwa will allow Satan to bring trouble to you if it means you will return to Him.
JEHOVAH brought raiding parties against Judah to bring them back to obedience to Him. It was His last effort before taking them from their homeland into captivity.
If your life is nothing but trouble, examine your life. Determine where the fault lies and repent of your rebellion and return to Yeshuwa who loves you and died for your salvation.
Let’s pray: Father, thank you for loving me so much that You will do whatever it takes to bring me back into a right relationship with You. Forgive me for my rebellion against You and show me Your love once again. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
