3 January - What I'm Thankful for Today

Good evening from frigid Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA. The current temperature is 16 F. For those of you comfortable with Celcius, it equates to -8. We also have a strong breeze out there making it feel like 1 F.
It's been a good day today. I have much to be thankful for today. Now don't be too harsh with me for this first thing I'm thankful for.
I'm thankful for my mother. It would have been her birthday today. I'm thankful she's gone and I don't need to deal with her negativity and hatred for me. I am thankful to her though for the values she instilled in me. Her negativity eventually helped make me a positive and happy person. Her hate eventually showed me I could love myself. Her destructive criticism caused me to fight for myself and prove I wasn't what she claimed I was - worthless and wouldn't amount to anything. I was 18 when I left home and joined the Navy.
Today, I'm thankful for my friends. I left my apartment to walk the halls and get my steps. However, when I was finishing my fourth round of the third floor, I met one of the residents, who invited me into his apartment. His wife was home. We talked for two hours. In the meantime, my friends - my next-door neighbor and my friend down the hall were super worried about me. They didn't know what happened to me. They went into my apartment looking for me and making sure I wasn't dead. I told my friend down the hall who saw me walking the first floor and assured her I'm fine. It's nice to know I have such wonderful friends who care about me.
I'm thankful for the friends I have here. I spent quite a bit of my day with you today, trying to catch up with my notifications. It's always good to know how you're doing in your part of the world.
I'm thankful I got to the bank this morning. I have money for tomorrow for the Winter Market, and for my tithe and laundry.
I'm thankful for my neighbor who could take me to the bank. She was also going to her bank.
I'm thankful for leftovers. I still have plenty of food from New Year's Day.

Friends are sure something to be thankful for. I have good laughs and great memories of many of mine. And memories of your mom I can really relate to.

Always nice to have people check up on us from time to time. Our neighbor, Mary, is in her 80s and if I don't see her much, I get a little worried as well. I usually check to see if there's any activity over there. She's a pretty feisty woman, so I usually see her up to something.

I'm thankful George seems to have woken some. He worries me when he doesn't want to get up or go outside. But, I've learned to expect he needs a day to recover after an outing. While not happy about my phone waking me up and it almost finding the floor because I couldn't be bothered to sit up and look for it prropely, that the VA got to me quickly. So I have to wait for three months for his percedure, fine. I'll deal with it. It gives me time to ask about giving meds and how to safely do so, since pills like to sit in his throat unless mixed with food or pushed through his peg tube.

I'm thankful for having new friends.
I'm thankful for Being in good health January to December 2024 and I hope for the same this year.
I'm thankful for my loved ones are alive.
I am thankful for God has been leading me, guiding me and protecting me.

I'm thankful that I can go to church and spend time in the presence of God.
