79 and falling

Bob is 79 today.
Icy, slick, freezy precipitation is falling.
I hope everyone got all their groceries and treats last night. (We did). This weekend is a doozy.
School and recreation things have all closed.
Churches closed for tomorrow.
Many at our school district are hoping for a snow day on Monday. We just do not want to deal with this weather. A lot of districts are not open until Tuesday anyway. Ours was just odd.
I am getting a lot of texts regarding the weather now.
Our electric company says they are prepared if we have outages. (We have gas heat with electric blowers). If we have outages I will either bake something or we will just crawl back into bed.
Our county road crews say "Please stay home and off the roads if you can".

Ice storms are so very dangerous.
We are not expecting a storm this weekend, but we have very cold January cold, temperatures.
It is a good weekend to stay in and hibernate.
I will put a pot of chili on for supper tonight.

It has been quite a while since we have lost power, and at this time we do not have a lot of wind. That is what usually disturbs our power. Chili sounds great.

I’m seeing a lot of interstates and toll roads are scheduled to be closed except for emergency vehicles. I can’t figure out exactly what areas they mean though but sounds like we are in for a doozy.
Glad to hear your electric company is prepared ahead of time.

It has been at least two years since we have lost electric power. Locally roads are not closed but over in Newton, a town where we shop a lot, the Walmart and one of the grocery stores we shop at had to close due to an outage. That is in the same general area as a large medical facility, but I do not think it is affected.

@GardenGerty that’s so wonderful to not have lost power for two whole years. Ours goes out often but not usually for more than a half hour or so recently though it was out for days. Hopefully that won’t happen again.

Happy Birthday to Bob. Anything special planned? I am very concerned about this upcoming weather. It reminds me too much of the horrendous storm we had a few years ago. Not a peep out of the electric company either. Several people including myself were without power for days. it was Nasty with a capital N.

No, I actually gave Bob his big present before Christmas. We are relaxing, drinking coffee, eating good food. I may make a cookie crust pie. I bought a mint chocolate pie crust (Keebler brand ) and having pudding to make the filling and cream to whip for the top of it.

We are enjoying staying home, eating well and just piddling around. As he said, if the power goes out and he loses TV he can always read a book. We have flashlights and somewhere I have a book light.

We expect mostly snow but we also will get ice. Ours does not start until later tonight. It will be a time to. Just hunker down! I love some snow, but ice storms are no one’s favorite. Be safe, Heather!

No one wants to see the power go down. The big thing I hate is the way so many people are so stupid when it comes to driving on icy roads. They absolutely will not slow down, then they land in a ditch and wonder why, or they crash into a guard railing, or hit another car. And then when the roads get really bad, some of them are idiotic enough to get on one of the interstates and have almost no gas, then they run out, and someone has to rescue them. So foolish.

We have gas heat, but the blowers are electric, of course. We have a gas cook stove, lots of candles, some oil lamps and lots of blankets. There are "warming stations" fairly close if we need it.

I think he is enjoying it. I splurged for a new pair of LL Bean Wicked good house slippers. I think his last pair has lasted him twenty years or so.

For a while he had so many health problems we did not expect to be doing so well. We are blessed and pretty healthy and staying warm.

Our car has a nice coating of ice on it. We didn't go shopping today. We never got above freezing. (My phone says it is 34F outside but the thermometer on the front porch says 29F. I believe the thermometer. The phone gets the temperature from Springfield and they're always different from us.)

Fires are always scary. In the summer months I know it is really dry and dangerous.
