O Christmas tree...

If you put up a Christmas tree this holiday, have you taken it down yet? We did put up a tree this Christmas (58 years and counting), but it's still up. We didn't do any decorating other than the tree like we did for so many years since we went to our daughter's for Christmas. I hate to take it down because we really enjoy the lights. It's an artificial tree, so there's no danger like with a live tree. The other day we saw live Christmas trees for sale. I wondered, "Why? Why would anyone buy a real tree after Christmas?" I guess I could claim that I'm waiting for Old Christmas, January 6, to take the tree down, but it's really just because I don't want to yet.

I have a small tabletop tree, and it's still where I put it.

@sallypup I think it is. We don't really have ornemets on it. Just the white lights it came with.

We did not put a tree up this year since we were not going to be home for Christmas. That is weird seeing real trees for sale after Christmas. I wonder what was up with that?

@1creekgirl Yes, it is nice to enjoy them for a couple more weeks after Christmas! I've always done that.

The live trees for sale were a mystery to me, too. We didn't decorate either since we were going to our daughter's. But I just always want our tree up. I'll take it down this week.

I would have loved to keep our tree up longer but when my husband bought it I believe it was cut to early and was already dying. By Christmas it looked terrible. You could see right through it so many needles had fallen off and the limbs were all dropping down so bad the whole back side was flat. We gave it water but it strangely never seemed to drink any. I prefer artificial trees but my husband won’t let me use one. The artificial one he bought was $60. I hope next year he will wait and we will go to a much lower cost place and cut our own so it will be fresh!

@1creekgirl I have had an artificial tree sitting in my cellar for 5 years. I’m never going to be able to use it while we are married. It’s incredibly musty in my cellar and if I can’t use it there’s no longer a reason to keep it. I am having a Christmas in July geocaching event and will put it out for decoration at the event then and I will toss it after that.

I love real trees, but we're both sensitive to the smell, so no live trees or wreaths. Hopefully you can get a nice artificial tree next year.

@1creekgirl let's just say my mother-in-law would often accompany us to the Central Market. The three of us would be walking along and my husband and I would be talking about how good it is to relax now that the holidays are over, From behind us a voice says Do you know that tonight will be the Orthodox Christmas Eve? And off we'd go to buy another tree etc, By February I needed a vacation,

My largest tree- all 4 fake feet- remains up. So does lit up jolly Santa in the front porch. The bitty tree is down. I really do need to get busy but for sure the jollity calls to me when its gray and flooding outdoors.

I understand. I really don't want to take our tree down, but we didn't do any other decorations since we weren't going to be here for Christmas.

Thanks, Linda. The photo was when I sang at church a couple of weeks ago. I'll probably take the tree down this week. Maybe.

I had several up but got sick instead of putting ornaments on. I took them down early, like right after New Year's. The lights are fun. I used to run Christmas lights all over my house in another place, to use as nightlights.

We love Christmas lights throughout the year, just not on a tree very long after Christmas.

I love the warm glow from the lights on the tree. I would imagine that the trees are still for sale as the vendor hopes that for some reason people will buy them and getting even a discounted amount for them is better than nothing. My daughter in law likes to decorate during the winter with those trees, but she buys them for Christmas and leaves them up until the warmer weather comes.

@1creekgirl If it is cold and you sit it in a pail of wet sand, which will freeze, and hold it into place, it is easy.

That's cool. Is it hard to keep it living that long? I'm sure they're beautiful, though.

We took ours down yesterday and it's now all packed away. There are still some properties all lit up and they look lovely. It won't be long and they'll be all gone.

I haven't put up a tree in well over a decade. I miss having one but there simply is no room here. I always take the Christmas decorations down the day after. To me it is just like drawing a line under the holiday and getting ready to move on. People here still have the lights around their doors lit each night. I don't get it.

I agree, I think some people leave their decorations up way too long after Christmas, but I guess it's a personal preference.

We took down all of our Christmas decorations inside and out this past Wednesday on the 1st. We had bad weather on the way, so we figured, now's the time to just get it all done.
