Good evening dear friends. I hope that you are safe where ever in the world you maybe at.
Here in western NC, we had sleet and freezing rain overnight. More snow to come this weekend for us.
Normally I don't mind winter weather but this morning I had to go to our courthouse because I was summoned for jury duty. With the bad weather overnight, court was on a 2 hour delay.
Once inside, with about 250-300 others, there was roll call, we were sworn in and watched a video about our job as a juror if chosen. First was the calling of 9 jurors for the grand jury. I really didn't want this job as it last for a year and we have to meet at the minimum of 10 times in that years time. Thankful I wasn't chosen. They were led out. The rest of us were told by the judge to come back in the morning to see if we would be needed on other juries. We were also given a number to call tonight for instructions as to when to show up.
I called and again thankfully I won't be chosen. The ones who were to face the judge this week along with their lawyers all pled guilty to their charges so there is no need for any other jurors this week.
About 2 years ago I was also summoned for jury duty. That time I was chosen for a civil trial and it took place on the same day. Though I spoke my mind about what I thought was the right thing to do, the majority vote won. There was one other that felt the same as I did on that case.
I hope that I am not called again. It isn't something that I want to do again. Mind you I am a person of justice. I watch Perry Mason almost every day. I love that he always sought the truth so the real criminal would go to jail. But that is a television show not reality. Truth isn't sought after much anymore. Our system is corrupt. People lie. People don't always pay for the crime they commit. Sometimes innocent people are put in jail for crimes that they didn't commit.
Have you ever served on a jury before? Did you like it?

I would have a very hard time serving on a jury. I always look at both sides and an n always middle of the road on my thinking. I have never been called to jury duty and hopefully never have to. I’m glad for you that you didn’t have to do it this time around.

I served once years ago and did not care for it. It was a murder trial and jurors had to be all on the same page with the same verdict. It was pretty obvious from the testimonies that the dude was guilty, but we had one guy that wouldn't budge and a mistrial was called. What a waste of time! And money by the city. I agree with you trials are more like a circus these days.

George and I are basically exhimpt. He was sent a letter to serve, but given the fact we couldn't risk the whole no contact thing, and my health, he was able to get out of it. Now, with his stroke and his mild to moderate afisia, well..... uh.... yeah. he won't be called. And I'm his full-time caregiver, so again, I won't be called either.
I have nothing against doing it, but it's really something I really want to even do. The whole role call thing alone, would be a waste of time and energy. Because once they learned I'm totally blind then that's it.

I have summoned to attend jury duty for a few years but I was never asked to be on a case in my lifetime. It is fun with good pay for serving my community.

Currently I have a medical exemption, but for those who do serve, and do it honorably, I have the deepest appreciation.
I know it can't be easy having to do that.

I got called for jury duty when I was 25. Because of my health I could have easily gotten out of it, but I had this notion of it being a civic duty I should be honored to do (cue laughter here). I was called up to the box to be questioned, but ultimately was not chosen. And it was a good thing because by the time we were released my back was so bad I needed help getting out of my chair.

I've never been on a jury, thankfully--I have no desire to. I got as far as the jury box once, but thankfully I was excused.

I have a medical exemption from jury duty. From everyone’s description, I’m thankful I do.

I'm glad you didn't need to serve.
Yes, I did. I think I could get the call this year. We have the opportunity every four years. Last time I served was the first and last time I was called. It was an insurance case. I voted not to give the person the max she wanted. I was in the majority for that vote.
I agree with you. Our system is corrupt and innocent people go to prison.

I served on a jury for a child abuse case. It was OK I guess. I don't care to do it again. Have a good day.

I had gotten a notice many years ago and my uncle called them and told them I couldn't serve on a jury. I was glad because I don't want to do it.

I've been on a jury once but didn't enjoy it either. I don't think I'll get called again as probably my age is against me.
