Just last night we heard from my hubby's aunt in Texas that she was involved in an accident. Her car was hit by another car coming out of the driveway but apparently the driver was getting the bottled water that rolled down. The female teen driver is 17 and out aunt is 82. Her left knee and arm are bruised and swollen. She have other small bruises but thank goodness nothing major.
I am not sure how is it when something like this happens there. And what is the implication of this with the teen driver as well.
We should all be careful driving or not.

The law varies from state to state, but there's a stnard rule of thumb on how this is handled. Since the kid wasn't 18, then a Judge would need to decide to treat the kid like a minor or like an adult. In any case, the teen will lose their driving rights, may see some jail time and will have court costs, likely community service and probation. And, that's assuming the charges aren't reduced or dropped. Each thing that happen has it's own charge with seperate conquences and costs for each.
The teen could face DUI/DWI (Driving under or driving will intoxicated or impared influanced) reckless driving, accident with a deadly weapon causing bodily harm also known as battery... but I don't have all the revelent details.
Whenever there is an accident invlving another party, typically impartment is assumed and tested for, because it's rarely as simple as takng your eyes off the road. I mean you should know better. At least your aunt wasn't killed.

Sad news. Accidents happen when the driver does not follow the rules of the road. It is necessary to be very careful while driving.

That's a relief that every one did not get any serious injury. I think most of the driver old and young should have a counselling session before they were given a license... so they will be reminded to be mindful not only of their safety but of the other people on the road and other drivers.

I'm glad your aunt is okay. Bruises should heal quickly. If your aunt needs any therapy for the swollen knee and elbow, she may have to see an attorney about that.
The insurance on the car the teen was driving will have to pay for the accident (If your aunt was seen in a hospital after the accident, then the insurance will pay for that, too.) and fix your aunt's car. The teen will face fines for reckless driving since she admitted she was trying to catch a fallen bottle of water. (Probably her parents will pay the fines.) The teens insurance will go up for three years. But that's USUALLY all that happens.
