Well, somebody who is very rich wants people to put in that many hours...exhorting us lazy Indians to work like Chinese...
The issue is...not everybody is equipped to handle that kinda work life balance...if it can be called that.
Is it investor greed, or is it fear of our neighbor China?
Whatever it is, this is not the way to go about it...those who want to work more, welcome, log in, do this and that, get more pay, get on with your life.
Those who have commitments, and other reasons ..including laziness, the normal week is good.
Based on output, promotions will be decided....that is fine too. We don't want mediocrity to rule.
If the country needs to be edged up, the way to do is to control politicians from spending away taxes unproductively. Not forcing everybody to become machines.
"What do you do sitting at home? How long can you stare at your wife? How long can wives stare at their husbands? Go to the office and start working".
"Honestly, I am sorry that I am not able to make you work on Sundays. I will be happier if I can make you work on Sundays, because I work on Sundays too,"
Those are the words of a Chairman of a leading company in India.
While distance can make heart grow fonder, too much distance can snap the relationships.
I feel sorry for his wife...or maybe she wants him to stay away so that she can enjoy her life....LOL

If the man is a workaholic that doesn't mean that the population wants to follow suit. Have a good weekend.

Even if we love working, most of us will tire, and burnout is not good for anybody. It will lead to fighting and excessive reactions among staff...my belief. Kinda, mind does not have time to reason and therefore, nit picking, and harsh reactions would be common. We cannot run like refrigerators. LOL

@porwest Exactly. I used to work 60+ hours a week in the winter time at Morton Salt; but there was an end to it in the spring.

Judy, people also vary in outputs. Some like me take longer to do things, while others can complete work faster. Why should I be given more just because I put in additional hours? Output should be considered.
That said, I think recruiting is a big responsibility. Extreme care needs to be taken at the time of recruitment.
Once the candidate is selected, and trained, even if the output is not as high as expected, he needs to be around. Because his remaining employed ensures that other financial commitments such as home loans and car loans are not defaulted. Such security is needed on macro scale. Homes and cars etc. are necessary to employ others so employment indirectly facilitates that as well as banking system. Only bad conduct can be the ground to throw the person out. Salaries can be increased or DECREASED. So you have a production target...great, you know how much output each person is capable of. Realistic projections will be great, and if needed, more can be employed. Right?
Why whip the same horse to get the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions in the same race? LOL

I think he spoke like that because he is stupid. Even if he thinks like that, and believes in it, he could have phrased it better saying....I hope to achieve this by this year end, and I sincerely hope my team will prove me right. Same thing, said pleasantly, and kinda motivates at least some people. Why the wives are brought into picture, god only knows. LOL

@vandana7 I have always believed that a strong work/life balance really is the key to success and happiness. Life cannot only be about work. And that's coming from a guy who loves money. I just think all the money in the world is worthless if you can't enjoy some of it and build a life around it instead of only for it.

mom told me that minimal wages went up in Bosnia, so i'm guessing we could expect more work hours in some time too. and of course, higher prices of flour, oil, bread - that's how it always is ![](/Content/images/emotes/lol.gif)

Our politicos too do that...but correspondingly, it seems they try to woo the poor who have more children so more votes. They give out doles...and so these people need higher motivation in terms of wages to work. By giving out such doles, we end up stressing out the middle class, mainly the lower and middle middle class. This class is not eligible for doles, and does not get enough unless it works hard. Working hard and getting that promotion attracts taxation too. Very bad state of affairs. So for doles they borrow from the market with government bonds...as you know. And the cost of this is collected recovered from Sales Tax and Excise. LOL. The corresponding inflation is hard to control. But we vote, because it is drilled in our heads that it is our duty to do so....really? B u ll S h i T

@kareng Funny part is, the wife has confirmed my suspicions. There have been no comments from her. Other directors of the company have tried to do some damage control, but the wife seems to be enjoying this negative publicity her husband is getting.

Too much work can be counter productive. Work life balance is necessary and without it, things will go hay wire.
