one more year

I have one more 60's year. One more set of days when I can say "but I'm not 70 yet!" It's been a good day. Hubby was his usual sweet self. Daughter tried to call me. My phone was acting up. I called her and got voice mail. Finally hubby called her and we ended up with a sweet chat. Her gift to me this year screams volumes. She gave me a James Gurney book- he is the artist who painted the Dinotopia movie scapes etc. Glorious. His usual paintings of light and shadows etc. really enchants me. His explanations of how to capture landscapes fuels the poet in me. It's a connection between daughter and me even though I draw stick figures. I still need those colors, those shadows, that caught sunset and sunrise. And a surprise for the day: I'd just frosted my simple one egg cocoa cake. Still had a mess every where. Friend and her husband appeared at the front door! We all sat together and had warm cake together. And ignored the various clumps of fur. I never have visitors on my birthday. Very nice. The photo is mine. I found a wee bit of garden promise. I couldn't resist picking these bits of snapdragon buds as a garnish for the top of my cake. The frosting has brown bits in it cause of ground walnuts.
