Hot and fits on a spoon

I began simmering barley this morning. It cooked into a soft edible mush. I then added buillon for salt and flavor, chopped in a carrot and dumped some onion chunks from the freezer. Later I added canned garbanzos. Cheap and hot for a mildly cold day. I sprinkled in chili powder when I gave hubby his portion.
Of course we finished with the end of yesterday's birthday cake.
Tasty enough and filling and yes, pretty cheap food.

Sorry, soft edible mush just doesn't sound good to me, but I do like barley in soup.
