Day 362 – Helper
1 Chronicles 19:1 It happened after this that Nahash the king of the people of Ammon died, and his son reigned in his place.
2 Then David said, “I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, because his father showed kindness to me.” Then David sent messengers to comfort him concerning his father, and David’s servants came to Hanun in the land of the people of Ammon to comfort him.
3 The princes of the people of Ammon said to Hanun, “Do you think David honors your father because he sent comforters to you? Did his servants not come to you to search and to overthrow and to spy out the land?”
4 Therefore, Hanun took David’s servants, shaved them, and cut off their garments in the middle, at their buttocks, and sent them away.
5 Then some went and told David about the men; and he sent to meet them, because the men were greatly ashamed. The king said, “Wait at Jericho until your beards have grown, and then return.”
6 When the people of Ammon saw that they made themselves repulsive to David, Hanun and the people of Ammon sent a thousand talents of silver to hire for themselves chariots and horsemen from Mesopotamia, from Syrian Maachah, and from Zobah. 7 Thus, they hired for themselves thirty-two thousand chariots, with the king of Maachah and his people, who came and encamped before Medeba. Also, the people of Ammon gathered from their cities, and came to battle.
8 Now when David heard of it, he sent Joab and the army of mighty men.
9 Then the people of Ammon came out and put themselves in battle array before the gate of the city, and the kings who had come were by themselves in the field.
10 When Joab saw that the battle line was against him before and behind, he chose some of Israel’s best and put them in battle array against the Syrians. 11 The rest of the people he put under the command of Abishai his brother and set themselves in battle array against the people of Ammon. 12 Then he said, “If the Syrians are too strong for me, then you will help me; but if the people of Ammon are too strong for you, then I will help you. 13 Be of good courage and let us be strong for our people and for the cities of our Elohiym. May JEHOVAH do what is good in His sight.”
14 Then Joab and the people with him drew near for the battle against the Syrians, and they fled before him.
15 When the people of Ammon saw the Syrians fleeing, they also fled before Abishai his brother and entered the city. Then Joab went to Jerusalem.
16 Now when the Syrians saw they had been defeated by Israel, they sent messengers and brought the Syrians who were beyond the river, and Shophach the commander of Hadadezer’s army went before them.
17 When it was told David, he gathered Israel, crossed over the Jordan and came upon them, and set up in battle array against them. Thus, when David had set up in battle array against the Syrians, they fought with him.
18 Then the Syrians fled before Israel; and David killed seven thousand charioteers and forty thousand foot soldiers of the Syrians and killed Shophach the commander of the army.
19 When the servants of Hadadezer saw they were defeated by Israel, they made peace with David and became his servants. Then the Syrians were not willing to help the people of Ammon anymore.
God’s names:
Elohiym – Supreme God
JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
Yeshuwa – Jesus
God’s character:
Helper
People make an error in judgment every day. They perceive the good intentions someone tried to do for them as bad and repay good with evil. When they realize their mistake, instead of making something good out of a bad situation, they make things worse.
David heard the king of Ammon had died and sent messengers to comfort his son. However, the servants of the new king convinced him David’s intentions weren’t honorable and humiliated them. When David learned what happened to his messengers, he told them to stay in Jericho until their beards grew back. Hanun realized his error and instead of making peace, went to war against David with the other kings he allied with. However, it didn’t go well with him when David’s army defeated the kings with him.
When you accepted Yeshuwa as Savior and Lord, Satan went to war against you. He caused people to come against you, lie about your intentions, and make your life as miserable as possible. However, when you go against Satan with the Word of Yeshuwa on your tongue and in your heart, he will flee from you. He cannot stand against you when Yeshuwa’s Word is your defense. You will also find that those who tried to make your life miserable became your friends.
As a child of Elohiym, Satan doesn’t have a leg to stand on. He can try, but when you use JEHOVAH’S Word to come against him, He will help you and defeat him. Remember, Yeshuwa is your Helper. He will help you in your time of need.
Jeremiah 33:3 ‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’ (NKJV)
Yeshuwa will aways defend you when you ask for His help.
John 14:12 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. 13 Whatever you ask in My name, I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.
What do you need help with? Ask Yeshuwa and He will come to your aid.
Let’s pray: Father, thank you for coming to my aid when Satan comes against me. Let my praise come before You when Satan flees from me because I trust in You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
