What?

Last week when it snowed my employer closed the store earlier than usual and I was called in a couple hours earlier. I lost four of my usual hours.
I was asked if I wanted to make up those hours, of course I said yes.
However....
I did a closing shift and was asked to come do an opening shift!!! Not in the office but stocking.
So....
Closing shift is late, opening is extremely early. I got 5 hours of sleep.
It was truck day and for four hours I helped break down pallets, put stuff on the floor and then stock it.
When I was leaving the general manager asked "how did you like it?" I replied " loved it because I didn't have to use my brain."
Maybe they just needed someone to help or maybe it's to see what I can do for the promotion I've been trying to get.
I'm hoping it's for the promotion.
And that's why I didn't get to mylot yesterday.

That was a weird thing for someone to ask you, no matter why it was asked. I used to turn down hours if it meant I didn't get enough sleep.
I hope you're feeling rested now.

Just do not let them take unfair advantage of you.

Are you not supposed to do the work you did? If it helps in your promotion then your extra work was worth it.

Hopefully you can get that promotion. I have been in management positions too many times and I have drawn a conclusion about them...I don't want them anymore. At the same time, I might not say no. But it depends. They were vetting me in my second to last job and I flat out told them no, I wasn't interested. I just wanted to do my job and go home.

I'm glad you enjoy retail. How many rental houses do you still own?
