Do you check the price of things you need?

If I need something I will buy no matter how much it costs But not if I want something. One can do away with wants if the price is more than what one can afford to buy
When a need is felt there is no point in finding out how much it costs. This mostly happens with groceries.
Groceries are items that we need every day and giving them up just because they are expensive makes no sense. I do not even know how much each of these items cost - I just buy them.
What about you?

Even if I need something I will still look at the price. If it’s way overpriced I will not buy it. Unless I have no other choice.

@allknowing I try not to wait until I am out of something to buy it. That gives me time to find what I need on sale or at a lower price.

@allknowing nor do I don’t think it’s very much as I haven’t heard people complain. I do know bacon eggs and orange juice are terribly expensive right now. Orange juice has been for well over a year.

@May2k8 For me convenience is more important than price We have stores closeby that mostly have branded items.

Will it be every time you decide to buy that you go from one brand to another to check prices for items that you need for your survival?

@JudyEv Price also depends on the brand and if you have a choice on brands I suppose you will not be bothered if it is more expneisve than other brands.

@allknowing I keep a general eye on prices but I'm not obsessed by it. For example, self-raising flour store-brand was half the price per 100g than another brand. All our pricing tags now have unit pricing on them so it's easy to compare one brand with another.

If things can wait , then I would check the prices everywhere alongwith quality , before a decision is made. Simply the price would not be the criteria for the purchase. Again , there are times we want to purchase a particular feature or product , in that case price would be only for secondary consideration as having the product at earliest is important. As far as grocery goes , I do check the prices online and in Dmart and then decide to make the purchase. It is also good to know which things are economical to purchase from where and how. However, time is essence in all of these activities. Well, good to know your thought process. Take care!

For every day items that we need once the brand is chosen I go for them regardless of what the price is.
I do not suppose you check each time you buy those items that you need regularly.

George and I would price check everything and go to different markets to buy if we found something we needed at a lower price. Now, I just shop at Walmart and don't even look.

@allknowing The truth is, when you're living from paycheck to paycheck (a common thing in the states) we're always looking ways to save money. So we look at things like and value for the price. It can be the difference between eating for a week, or having enough to heat or cool your home.

I carefully explore the Walmart site I order from before it is time to put in an order and make up a list so that I know just how much everything will cost,

@allknowing Usually. Unless I need it, for example, yesterday my husband was informed that he needs to wear a white dress shirt under a suit and black trousers. He doesn't have a dress shirt. So, we had no choice. Since he had lost a lot of weight, we also needed to buy a new pair of winter trousers.

I never pay more for things I need. I live by a motto, "Save on the things you need so that you can afford the things you want."
Price is everything to me, and I won't pay a single penny over my threshold price which is based on the best price wherever it is sold.
I run my pantry like a business, keeping extra stock and inventorying. When something is almost out, I add it to the list, and I know exactly which store sells them for the best price, and then I coordinate my shopping according to which store has the most items on it at the best price that need to be replaced.
The thing is, what I REALLY want is to work less, retire early, have the comfort of knowing I have money in the bank if a catastrophic thing happens, and don't have to worry about money. If I don't do these things, I will have to work myself to the bone and be broke.
Before I retired, I worked too hard for my money to simply throw it away.
No thanks.

@allknowing Well, when it comes to needs, I will still shop for the best price. I have no interest in throwing my money away, and I will be damned if I'd be willing to work more hours and harder to pay more for something than simply taking the time to ensure every dollar I earn and spend receives the greatest value.
People will often argue, "It saves me time to shop at one store." The truth is, it doesn't really save time. It COSTS time. Because every penny over you spend must be made up working for it or some way making up for it.
Just my two cents.

Of course I keep track of prices, how would I know if I was paying too much if I didn't? Everyone I know tries to buy their food on sale. That's how I keep my pantry stocked--when an item is on sale that I use a lot of, I buy it then, and I never have to pay the regular price that way. Many people here in the US do that. It saves money, and you don't run out of needed items to put a meal together if you have a spare when you need it. I don't mean I go out and buy a ton of one item just because it's on sale--I use discretion. But it never hurts to have a spare when you cook daily and have family to feed.

@MarieCoyle I am fine with my approach. I have this off line store and an online Site. I do my shopping at those places and I am contented May be there will be places with cheaper stuff but I am more for sticking here than running around

Most of my grocery needs are purchased at sale prices. If a person has a refrigerator, pantry, and freezer, they can plan ahead. I mostly use two stores, they are very close together. Our diet is varied, good, and nutritious. I like to cook and I plan our meals around our sales for the most part. It isn't hard. Why waste money if you don't have to?

For most things I need, I don't check the price. I know the brands I like and have an idea of the prices. I might check if it's something I've not bought for a while or to find deals/check if another brand or store would have it cheaper. I've waited a little longer for things I've needed, or picked an alternative, if I felt it cost too much. I know I can afford the things I need. However, that's not ways been the case. I would have to go without some things e.g. if I needed 5 items and only had enough money for 4 of them. I'm glad I don't need to do that any more, but I still do check prices because I want to know what I'm spending and if I can make any savings.

**Budget Shopping: How I Buy Smart**
I am a thrifty shopper. Before I buy anything, I always look at all the prices. This way, I can choose what fits my budget. I focus on getting what I need, not what I want. I buy the basics and leave the rest. That’s how I shop! By sticking to my plan, I save money and still get what I need.
