Work from home or work from office?

With the way work has evolved over the past few years, I’ve been curious about people’s preferences. Do you enjoy working from home or prefer the structure of an office environment?
I think both have their pros and cons. Working from home offers flexibility and comfort, but the office environment can bring collaboration and a sense of routine. What works best for you, and why?
Last two years I have been working from home. As a freelancer there is no fixed work so that is a drawback.
I connect with team mates on zoom calls 3/4 times a week and the rest of the time I am on my own. I enjoy this because I have the flexibility of working hours. Also because of age I am not too keen on travelling out daily anymore.
I’d love to hear your experiences and thoughts on this!

When I worked full time I too did not get a chance to work from home except during Covid. When I retired and needed to look for work I started looking for online work and since I love writing I managed to get jobs that I can do from home. And I am enjoying it.

I never had the opportunity to work from home. I worked in customer service and had to actually be at work to talk to the customers.
Now, of course, I'm retired and find this the most relaxing of all.

Like you I also liked the structure of being in an office. But in my last job the new boss troubled me so much that I was happy when it was time for my retirement. People were asking me to check with the office if they would extend my term and let me work for two more years but I did not want to work under that boss. And now since I have got very comfortable jobs and earn quite a good amount most months I am happy. The only drawback is that when there is no work there is no money coming in.

I much prefer working from home. I've done an 'office' job for about 7 years. I started actually in an office but, due to covid, worked from home. That has continued. I now go into an office about once a month. I find it's really noisy there! I don't understand why people think that working from home means lazy or not doing anything. My job is the same wherever I do it. There's not that much flexibility as the hours are set and I'm answering phones. However, I'm nearer the toilet when at home and that's important
I don't mind going into the office. My previous job's office was further away, the bus journeys adding up to 3 hours to my working day. My current office is only a 10 ton15 minute walk away so it's not so bad!
Before these office jobs, I worked from home as a freelance writer/tutor. It was great to set my own hours and have the flexibility. I could work from a library if needed, and I could juggle work around to accommodate other things. I much preferred that but I needed the better income that my office job brings!
Certainly, though, working from home is much more preferable when it makes no difference where the work is done.

I have worked more than 30 years in multiple offices and travel time was always an issue I too spent about 3/4 hours a day travelling. Now I working as a freelancer for two different firms. One is just half an hour away from my house and I need to go there once a month for team meetings. The other is in another country so no question of going there to office. For both these I don't have any fixed timing as long as I finish the work during the day. I am enjoying the flexibility and don't want it any other way now.

My current job has to be done in person. I would love to find something to do that will let me work from home, so I do not have to worry about traveling. My sister-in-law is in a work team where they each rotate into the office one at a time. Six people means she only goes in every sixth working day. They are training a seventh person. She works in her pajamas and manages her own breaks and such. She has to be there at set hours and set days but she saves a lot of money on gas and eating out.

Well, I don't work often, but when I do it is a combo of home and out in the field. I don't have an office I go to.

I think hybrid schedule works best... WFH in a few days and back to the office on other days. Actually WFH is not really good when you have a very demanding job and bosses. Coz they tend to reach out to you very easy without considering that you should be off from work after office hours and Over time.

I worked outside of the home in my younger days when I lived in NYC. Then I moved to Latvia and I created a home business where I taught people English, Now here in Florida I am retired and I am glad to be able to make some passive income over the Internet, I would not go out now to work,

My last job was also work-from-home for two years, and I really liked the flexibility and being able to work in a comfortable space. But now that I’m job hunting, I realize I sometimes miss going out and having a change of scenery, it can get a bit boring staying in all the time.
If I had the choice, I’d still prefer a work-from-home setup because it works better for me overall, but I wouldn’t mind going out for work if that’s what’s available.

Work from home does provide flexibility and more than save you from the expenses and time to go and be back from office. For people with moderate workload , it is best thing as you could balance things at home and study or do work on your hobbies. For people with heavy workload , the location does not matter as more or less they would be working non-stop and the time saved from travellin is often used up in completing the work instead of doing it over the weekend. Work from home is good to balance life as constant office time would end people in taking more leaves. However , not all organizations wants to give the flexibility fo work from home. My experience has been average with the different workloads I have. Take care!

The organization I worked in earlier did not need me to be physically present in the office, but the boss insisted I go to the office daily. After four hours of travel, I would just have to work for an hour or two. Now whenever I get an offer I make it very clear that I will only work from home.

I never had any experience working in the office. I don't like online meetings, there was a long hiatus that made it difficult for me to move on, but I'd still choose to work from home no matter what.

As you said, there are pros and cons. Out here, I find folks do not understand the work from home concept when it is women who are working from home, especially if they are not earning in 50 to 60 thousands. So people feel free to barge in at any time. Deadlines become hard to meet.

I came home to work 5 years ago in March, and I love it.
My days are just as structured as they were in the office, but there are not the distractions that there are in the office.
And being towards the last few years of my working career, I am a minority in the office, and working from home feels right for me right now. I still go into the office once a month, as we all have to.

I work part time for two different people... freelancing for both. One firm is near my house so I need to go there once a month for team meetings. Rest of my work is just online so it makes no difference if I don't go to office. The other job is through Fiverr from another country so just manage on zoom meetings two or three times a week and rest I work independently.

I used to work from home and I enjoyed the flexibility of working hours. I didn't have to commute every day. On top of that, I could take a break anytime. The only drawback was "NO work, NO pay".
