What Had Happened Was

There's a bit of a funny back story to our finally pulling the plug on our cable. It was something that my wife and I had fully discussed for several months before I actually decided to do it. You see, my wife is the TV watcher. I watch very little. Nonetheless, the last conversation we had, my wife asked me, "So, you keep talking about cancelling the cable. When are you actually going to do it?" "After the storm," I told her. You see, I knew that getting rid of the cable would leave us without access to our local channels, and when there is inclement weather, it is nice to have the local weather guys guiding and directing us about what to expect. Especially during the summer when we are prone to tornadic rotations, as our local guy likes to call them. I cancelled the service on Wednesday, and it officially ended on Friday morning. After the fact, she then blasted at me, "Couldn't you have at least waited until football was over?" "But I told you it would be after the storm. The storm has came and went." The thing is my wife is the sports fan in the house. Her football is as important to her as my politics and elections coverage is to me. I never intended to not have something to replace the cable. I thought we might get a month free of it. But no cigar. We now have YouTube TV which will run us $82.99 a month once we get past the 10 days free and the six month introductory rate. She is very happy, and so am I because she is happy with what we got, which is almost identical to what we had, and I still get to save $100 a month. The frying pan which she was peculiarly carrying around the house the past day and a half, considering she does not cook, has also been properly restored to its proper place in the cabinet.

You don't listen to local radio for weather updates? Or even check the internet?

It worked out. I was very appreciative of the inputs my fellow myLot friends offered that greatly helped me to make my final decision.

The funny thing is that we talked about it. A lot. And she was fine with it. Until I actually did it, and then she was like, "Oh wait." lol. But yes. Problem resolved. She's happy. She's watching football now. She was excited to see we could see the nightly local news. I saved my life. lol

Neither do I. I would have to ask my wife. I don't keep up with sports at all.

You can just use your smartphone to check on the local weather. I would love to know exactly what our broken down charges are for TV and Internet and what channels are included. Hubby can’t access his account. Argh! He tried resetting his password a few times and that didn’t work.

And if you call to inquire you are on hold forever and then when someone does answer, they don't speak good English!! Grrr!

Tell that to my wife. I don't care about the weather. I look out the window and there's my answer. The only reason we did what we did was because the wife is the one who wants "TV." Personally, I don't need it and could live without it. But she is, for lack of a better term...the boss. lol As for me, I know the cost of everything...TO THE PENNY. lol

I've had it for like 4 years now and have been very happy with it. The only thing I would like added is Cooking Channel but that is like splitting hairs at this point. I'm cut off from my ex's Netflix at the moment. They finally caught on that I live somewhere else. I'm still deciding if I want to pay for that or for MAX. I don't want to pay for both. I already have Prime.

@porwest oh I'm a total parasite. I'm on my ex's internet still, *was* on his Netflix, on my sister's YouTube TV and Apple Music. I was on a coworker's MAX too but it looks like she suspended the account.

You know my thoughts on "sharing." lol. But of course, I am a greedy, rich guy who wants my fair share if everyone else expects me to pay my fair share. What's good for the goose is good for the gander, right? Why is it always the ones attacking the rich for cheating are the ones...cheating? Okay, okay. No politics on this one. lol. But yeah, what lead us down the YouTube TV as " a go" path was that in all of my conversations here and elsewhere about it, it's the one that consistently came up as the best. Worst case scenario, we are not satisfied and we make another switch. But based on what I am seeing, I suspect we may become long time customers.

I am surprised you have kept it this long. Bob would like to have sports, but all we have is Amazon Prime and the free channels. I can get the weather channel if I ever wrestle the remote out of his hands. He watches lots of classic television and car shows and westerns and so on and so forth. I got Prime for the free shipping, but it is nice he can enjoy the TV as well. I have tried other things and I would never pay as much as you are for YouTube TV but if she is happy and you are happy, and you save $100 per month it is a win.

I have YouTuber TV. It's decent. I have better channels than when I had Dish, and includes the local channels.

There are several "things" I have that are there because they are less expensisive. I have a "combo" that includes internet, line phone, local TV, wife and sothing else. Once I asked if I would pay less if I gave up part of my things. Nope, they answered. It was all or nothing, apparently. And as i need the web, I´ll have the rest of it.

And you can take the motorcycle helmet off now that she’s returned the frying pan to its rightful place. And I’ll give YOU a song about it!!! (It’s country, but it’s only two minutes long.)

We have a Roku as well. We currently use Prime, Hulu and Netflix, and now YouTube TV. So, our total monthly cost for TV is actually around $109 not including the cost of Prime, which of course is not just for streaming but other things as well.
