Im wondering why our neighbor's dogs howl during this time

I'm not into superstitious beliefs at times but I believe some. I am aware that dogs howl because its either they are bored or want something. Boredom in dogs as I have known passes once their energy is used up and that is why walking in dogs or even just a simple activity that can use up their extra energy is a must for tgeir health. But with our neighbor's dogs its different. They howl every night at this time, sometimes I'd like to peek by the fence to look what was going on but its not appropriate. Sometimes the howl is frightening. Elders in our community heard the howl and is saying the dog sees something that our human eyes cant see. Do you believe in that ??

That is possible. Mine howl when they hear sirens. Maybe there is a sound that bothers them that time of night.

@wolfgirl569 I agree on that, they have a keen hearing and sense of smell.

I think they howl for several different reasons. They have very sensitive ears. There are myths of course too. They are just reliving their days.

@celticeagle I agree my cousin is a vet and she is not that confident in myths , she is more into science and research.

I would believe that. Our dog (over 100 lbs.) comes inside when the temperature drops below freezing. He has been inside most of the week this week day and night. We have observed again (he has done this before) of staring off as if in a trance. There is nothing there, but he is captivated. He has also gone over to area and sniffed around as if to say..."where did they go?" So yes, I think they can see spirits, which we cannot.

@kareng Sometimes they bark too at something but nothing's there , I remember a time when our beagle was still alive , beagles are sniffing dogs and my Etet can't stay in one place, Sge would go to our front gate sniff and then bark at something but nothing there , She went inside the house came to me circling and I thought maybe she will pee or have poop but no , she ran outside again then barked , and I was a little scared hahaha and confused because there's nothing at out front gate , no strays because its evening

One of my dogs is a Husky breed mix. She can't bark so she howls. When she sees another dog she makes a very loud howl. Its fun to hear.

Maybe they don't like being confined all the time. Are they walked at all?
