Today's mystery

We have a ceiling-mounted drying rack at home and that’s where I hang up the washing in winter. Yesterday I was taking down the dry things, then I went round with the basket, distributing clothes to their owners. And I found I was left with this mysterious pair of white leggings.
They seem to be ladies’, at least the label says size 14, so they are not men’s thermal underwear. They are far too big for the girls, they would just drop off, they are not mine, obviously don’t belong to my partner, and our current lodgers know nothing about them. Our friends who came for the weekend a couple of weeks ago deny any responsibility, and they aren’t really the legging-wearing types anyway (and the wrong size). I’m stumped.
I wondered whether any of us could have accidentally gathered them up from some sort of dance event, but none of us can think of anything involving any need to change into white leggings, or anyone wearing any.
How can we possibly have gained somebody else’s leggings? They certainly haven’t blown into the garden from a neighbour’s washing line because as I said, they were hanging inside. I hung them up myself a couple of days ago and at the time I didn’t recognise them but thought it would all become clear later. Did someone break into our house to leave us their washing??

They remind me of what the football players wear.

We also argue new things at home like clothes or sweet desserts and missing things about IDs , glasses or anything we use everyday. I can't steal and hide someone's stuff in our house

@fleura Not mine. In the past when I swam a lot I often came across items of mostly underwear in the wash that we not mine. I assume that I just bundled up whatever was lying near me upon changing and went home and thrust it all in the machine, not knowing that some poor man was maybe scouring the changing room looking for his under things. I never wore such items of course - that would be weird. I do hope you get to the root of the mystery. I have a friend who used to hang great big bloomers on his neighbour’s washing line when they were out leaving their washing unattended. Such are folk.
