Old fashioned pulled sugar candy

Many years ago my Aunt Fannie made pulled sugar candy around the holidays and it was such a special treat. It was cut and wrapped in waxed paper and when she handed you a couple of pieces, you felt like you had won the lottery!
It's made with sugar and vinegar and when made correctly, it's amazing. But that's the catch: MADE CORRECTLY.
When our daughter Tammy was a young teenager, she and her cousin decided they would go into business making and selling this candy.
It didn't take long for them to realize that was just about impossible. The candy has to be cooked to just the right temp (Aunt Fannie never used a candy thermometer), then it has to be pulled just the right amount of times (how to know how many times?), then at just the right moment it's cut into small one inch pieces and wrapped individually. It can break a tooth if you try to bite it until it softens some in your mouth.
Recently Tammy and I were remembering how delicious it was. She and her husband started practicing and finally perfected it! There's some on the way to us in the mail, so hopefully it will be really good.
They're even selling it on Etsy. I think Aunt Fannie would be really pleased.

My Grandmother made Cream Candy. but it was never as good as Ruth Hunt's Cream Candy. Hers was not as white as theirs. But it was still GOOD. She had a hook on the door where she could pull the candy until it was lighter. Then cut it and placed it in tins. Sometimes she would dunk it in semi-sweet chocolate. YUM!
Ruth Hunts had a Cream Candy Bar called Blue Monday. The factory that made the candy was in the basement of the store. They had a satellite store close to the school, and they delivered fresh candy to that store around lunch time. We would RUN down to the store at lunch to get a fresh Blue Monday for 10¢. Sometimes they were still chewy before they turned to sugary creamy bars with Dark Chocolate coating. OMG..I can just about taste one just thinking about them. LOL

@1creekgirl She sounds like my mom. Inwardly tough, but vulnerable health wise.

@AmbiePam I think you're right. Tammy's tough, but not well at all.

I wouldn't have the upper body strength to pull it like that.
Tammy's teenager Landon came home from school Tuesday with the flu. He's feeling right much better, but now Tammy has it. She has such a low immune system.

Yes, I bet she would get a real kick out of it, especially if they called it Aunt Fannie's candy.

They did name it Fannie's Old Fashioned Sugar Candy, I think.
