Snow Joke!

We rarely get snow here is the South, but we got some this week. The snow started shortly after 1 am Wednesday morning and continued until right after lunch/noon.
Our forecast originally called for up to five inches, but it was more like 3.5 to 4 inches when it finally stopped. Our lows for each night this week have been adjusted multiple times, as were the expected amount of snow!
Hopefully, tonight will be our last night of temperatures in the 20's for some time (crossing fingers for last time this winter), but I am hearing about another storm hitting right after February 6th. So, I won't count that out, just yet!
The photo above is of our big Camellia bush. It goes up all the way level with the first story of our house. It is old, but I don't know exactly how old. It was covered in blooms before the snow and now has withered and wilted blooms on it. I don't expect any of the buds to survive this storm either because we got down into the single digits with the wind chill factor.
Did you get snow? How much did you get? Records were set all over the South from New Orleans, LA to the panhandle of Florida.

Snow did hit the Lake Charles area around midnight on Monday which did cover the streets and grass around the city which was closed from Monday through Thursday.

@kareng The sidewalk and grass looked like a football field under the snow.

@allknowing I had to look up the difference in snow bells and snow drops!! Here it is:
1. Size: One of the most noticeable differences between snowdrops and snowbells is their size. Snowdrops are much shorter in stature compared to snowbells. Snowdrops typically reach a height of about 3-6 inches (8-15 cm), while snowbells can grow up to 12-18 inches (30-45 cm) tall. This significant difference in height gives them distinct appearances in a garden or landscape setting.
2. Flower Color: Although snowdrops and snowbells share the same flower color, which is a beautiful white, they can be differentiated by other features. Snowdrops have a pure white coloration throughout their petals, while snowbells may have hints of pale green or yellow within their white flowers. This subtle variation in color adds a unique touch to each flower.
3. Petal Shape: Another distinguishing feature is the shape of their petals. Snowdrops have six rounded, elongated petals that curve inward, giving the flowers a distinct bell-like appearance. On the other hand, snowbells have five petals that are more triangular in shape, with slightly pointed tips. These variations in petal shape contribute to the overall look and feel of each flower.

My house was about 10 miles south of the snow line, so I never got snow at my house. But a lot of my co-workers who live a little farther north than I do all got snow at their house. The best (or worst) we got at my place was a little freezing rain.

@moffittjc Very true! We have had our share of fires here. Remember year before last when the woods were on fire adjacent to our property and we got a knock on the door from authorities to be ready to evacuate? That was scary!!

@kareng Always be thankful for rain, or else we might end up on fire like California.

We have had 4 snow events so far in January. Fortunately, no accumulation over 3 inches. But temps were in the teens!

I'm from the eastern part of India. Here we never have snowfall. I have seen snowfall either in pics or movies or on tv. It looks so wonderful.
Our northern most states have snowfall every year in winter..

@kareng You are right. Nobody knows what is going to be in the next second. If the opportunity comes; I'll never let it go.

@grenery8 Very much so. We had a slight chance of rain today and last night got warnings of possible tornadoes with this front moving in from the north. Now we have tornado watches for this afternoon into the night and heavy rainfall on the way. The bottom should come off the bucket any minute now.

We have had snow multiple times this month. At least two had four inches each, on top of an inch of ice. We have had a day or two of flurries that amounted to very little. I am ready to be done.

I will join you in ready to be done with winter! We are not used to the kind of cold and weather we had all last week. It doesn't usually happen like that in the deep south. One or two nights in a row is our normal of temps in the low 20's and maybe once per year in the teens, snow every few years!!

We haven't gotten any snow in this area of Virginia since the first storm several days ago. It has been so cold though that some of it is still around, and the bottom of my driveway is still icy. Hopefully, it will melt this week.

I'm in North Carolina, and we had gone without for almost three years, but we finally got some this year. I grew up in West Virginia, so I really missed it!
