Keeping it in the family

A relatively busy day for us today. Vince’s brother is due here shortly with a trailer and we’ll be loading the ‘hospital bed’ for him to take to his house. A new hospital-type bed is very expensive, but we were able to purchase one second-hand. It got good use after Vince’s two major operations as it is fully adjustable every which way. The photo shows it at its full height. What looks like bars behind it is light coming in at the edges of the window-blind. The BIL has a room it can go in and the bed will be kept in the family as we’re all getting older. We can go back to using our Murphy bed which you can see packed up to the left of the photo. We’ll go back to his house to help unload it then later we’ll go to a 50th wedding anniversary celebration.

@judyev very useful bit of kit to have access to. Hope nobody will need it any time soon.

It's a very comfortable bed just as it is so okay as a spare bed. And yes, we're hoping it won't be needed soon.

You should keep that bed in the family.

That's what we're doing. They are expensive to buy but much better than trying to prop people up with pillows.

We're hoping no-one will need it any time soon. In the meantime, it's a very comfortable spare bed.

From what i see, the hospital ward type bed still look a very good condition. I do hope that it is not too expensive. Do you have the contact of the bed maintenance team in case the bed need some servicing?

@JudyEv I think at second half for half the price, it is a steal.

It's in brand-new condition so hopefully it won't need any maintenance for a while. We bought it second-hand and half-price.

Great to keep those, especially as expensive as they are. I still have my mother’s “companion wheelchair” (the ones with all four wheels small that must be pushed by someone), and that’s nearly 30 years old. (Right now my neighbor is using it because of the spondylitis in her back.)

@JudyEv — I don’t blame him. Our Medicare system will pay for certain durable medical equipment (DME), BUT only certain things…and only ONCE.

My BIL has several items which were bought before his wife passed away. He is reluctant to get rid of them in case they are needed again.

That height is good for those who cannot get up from a low bed. I am one of those.

It's good he has room to store it until someone else needs to use it. I hope you had a good time at the wedding anniversary celebration.

It's in one bedroom as a spare bed. He said he might use it himself as he slept in it at our place once Vince was better and was impressed with how comfortable it was.

The BIL has other devices/appliances from before his wife's demise so if anyone gets ill, we have just about everything covered.

It will be a spare bed at my BIL's house until someone needs it. We're all getting older so it's on the cards that one of the family might need it one day.

A Murphy bed must be so nice to have. Keeps the area so uncluttered!

It works well for us. We don't have many people stay over now so it does free up the space.

I'm not sure what the connection is. I looked up Barnsley but it wasn't a help.
