Does a normal person care more about strangers instead of their family?

My dad said that he doesn't respect my mom at all. He doesn't care about what she says. But he wants to invite a stranger and discuss his problems with him. That stranger is my godfather, but I never saw him when I grew up. He is a stranger to me and my parents. And my dad wants to talk to him about his problems. He said he has no one in this town and wants to move out. I asked him if I was nobody. I didn't receive an answer. But why would someone care more about strangers than their own family? Are those strangers better? Are they more important? It looks like he needs validation from strangers and we aren't important to him. He cares so much about people's opinions. Is this normal? Do you know such people? Of course, we are not perfect but he isn't ideal either. And those strangers aren't perfect. He jokes with everyone, and he is extremely angry when he sees us. It's like he has many faces. I think I will need to talk to a therapist because staying without therapy is difficult. I am my dad's therapist. I am listening to him every day for hours and this is for free. My brother doesn't come home anymore. He wants to avoid any negative discussion.

Why do you say that you are your dad´s therapist? Is it just a way of saying or is it true? I don´t think that most people behave like your father.

You will find people like that everywhere - in very large numbers.
