Finding Solutions

When I took this new job I didn't know how out of control certain areas were. I do now and I've applied company policy to the max with the help of the general manager, I simply report to her about the situation and we find a fix. We have an older customer service manager that's been with the company forever, she doesn't like to be the one that will tell people " your choice, comply or goodbye." I'm the one that will say it, not being mean at all about it but I have the experience from my former employer because that was my position to hire and fire according. I think we found a solution for the employee that has been the hardest to accept the fact that they are not the boss, this one does good work but has the tendency to manipulate the employees around her age. I'm hoping this will stop her ... I see it as abusive to another employee and voiced that to the general manager, she agreed. I see a better working environment coming. I like my job but I don't make it my life. I have a bigger vision for myself, however, God put me there for a reason. As for my first job, I got stuff to get done there as well, the sooner the better as I'm seeing it. How's life treating you?

Life is very uncertain at this time Angie since you asked. I would move out of state if I could. Glad you are getting respect in the job you are in now.

Life is treating us well here, really. I am beginning to find reasons to use my paid time off, because if I quit at the end of the year and they buy it back it is worth less than if I take it and get paid. I am enjoying what I do at home and I will miss what I do at school, but I believe that my husband and I both will be healthier if I make a change.

I hope your new plan for this abusive coworker will work out! I wouldn’t want to have to work with someone like that.

Well, the one being abused doesn't even realize that she is, I'm not going to tell her either, well make the changes and let it be.

I won't mind being the one hiring, but certainly not the one firing.

In order to be a "manager," one must manage. And if they can't, they cannot be a manager. It's bad for business and promotes a "do whatever you want" attitude amongst the people under that manager. If I read your post right, I agree.

I prefer to say " leader" instead of manager but..... I ask no one to do anything I won't do, I asked for no cell phones( and it's company policy) and you know what? I don't have one on me. If you don't lead by example it's useless.

@andriaperry I agree. Leader is a better word. It's like what I said before about the difference between an E-7 and a Chief in the Navy. Most people, I find, who are in "leadership" roles are unqualified to be in such roles, and most people who aspire to be in those roles want to be there for reasons other than leadership. They just want to be the boss. When I was in any management role, I was the same way. Not only could I do all of the jobs I lead, I HAD done all of them, and my expectations for myself were no different than the expectations I had for others.

Is it about seniors and juniors? Negative habits like this should be stopped. I also want a comfortable working environment.
