How Has Technology Changed the Way You Relax?

Time to relax

From binge-watching shows to endlessly scrolling apps, technology plays a huge role in how we unwind. But is it truly helping us relax, or just adding more distractions? Do you ever unplug completely, or does relaxation always seem to involve a screen? How has your idea of downtime evolved over the years? Personally, I make it a point to disconnect during my relaxation time. Whether I’m at home or outdoors, I avoid using my phone and only take calls from close family or friends. When I’m at the beach or in a garden, my phone stays on silent mode. At home, especially in the late evenings, I shut my laptop and keep the TV off so I can enjoy some peaceful, screen-free “me time.” How do you balance technology and relaxation in your life? Pic is mine created on Canva.

I have been teaching online and am use to using all the devices. At some point, I can still balance my life.

I too use devices for work. In fact my laptop is on the whole day. But at nights when its time to relax I switch off the laptop and TV. I ensure I am either reading something or else just relaxing.

@mayka123 Once I am done with my personal computer, I just use my mobile phone. I am doing it for an entertainment and earning at the same time.

What stands out from the various ways technology has made me relax, is online shopping

I too do a lot of my shopping online. Yesterday my Son and DIL had gone shopping and they made a video call to select dresses they bought for me. I selected the colour and designs and now I am waiting when they visit to get my new clothes.

Since I want to make a living in front of a screen, getting away from it would be my way to relax. I like going for walks if the weather allows, I might grab the phone to take a few pictures or check the map and that's all the technology I need. Well, maybe I can't really unplug completely unless I'm taking a shower or a bath.

Like you I too make a living in front of a screen. And for my work I need to keep watching news too regularly to update information on websites. So for nearly 12/16 hours daily my TV and computer is on. Rest of the time I try to be away from the phone and laptop if possible. Dont even listen to music and just enjoy the silence around me.

I'm a little bit guilty of the fact that my relaxation involves screen, but to be very honest I don't feel rested. it's more like draining, and being tired by doing nothing. It's kind of exhausting. Too bad because I got used to it.

You should try and switch off all gadgets after a particular time daily. This may help you relax more and make you feel less drained.

Its never been the same... before relaxation means peace, but I think technology gets you closer with things that are so noisy... I enjoyed watching kdramas and listening to different music but after that I feel more tired and I feel its so noisy.

Watching movies does not let our brain relax. I am also guilty of doing that sometimes but mostly avoid watching TV at night.

I have to have my cell phone with me at all times. But at night it goes into the drawer and I do not have it with me until the next day.

I rarely disconnect anymore. We moved into a very small house so no room for my library anymore. I used to always have a book in my hands, reading until I fell asleep. Now, my books are stored on Amazon and I read them on my phone or tablet. I still fall asleep reading, though.

That's a very good way of doing it. It's easy to get too caught up with technology.

I don’t know. It’s made me lazier than I was before. I have a handheld screen that entertains me and other things that do all the work for me.
