A 'before' photo

It’s going to be another scorcher today with temperatures really the high 30Cs so over 100F. We went out early and made a start on tidying up the garden that fronts the village street. The circular beds are new. The pickets come in a roll which is 3 metres long.
I intend to take some of the soil out of the circular beds, replace it with potting mix and plant something, although I don’t know what yet. I might put a rose-bush in each one which would be easy maintenance but still look nice.
The plants outside the circles will probably be removed and that area covered with mulch. We want to use the motor-home as much as possible while we can so we’re looking to make the garden as low maintenance as possible.
This is a ‘before’ photo but don’t hold your breath waiting for an ‘after’ one. It will be while coming.

Thanks for the good wishes. We're going to be away for two 5-week periods house-sitting so low maintenance would be ideal.

I just want the two areas of flowers/roses then I'll mulch the rest. It will look tidy while we're away house-sitting.

Yes, this area gets a lot of sun. I probably won't plant anything till the weather cools off a little.

I remember you showing us the red and green succulents a year or two ago. I really like them. Rose bushes are very low maintenance and look good whether they are in bloom or not. I'm sure your flower bed will look really nice when you guys get done with it.

@JudyEv Yeah, some rose bushes struggle in the heat and won't bloom until the weather starts cooling off.
I hope you find some that you love.

I've got a similar circular ring I put around my beach plum bushes. They make nice holders for soil.
May you have good luck and good times in the garden!

Great idea! What are those pretty red plants in the back, in front of the bushes?

@JudyEv — thank you for the information! “Desert cabbage” is another name, according to a site I found.

@FourWalls I'd forgotten that one. I guess every country came up with a nickname for it.

It will be fun to choose two rosebushes. I might get ones with a strong scent.
