I just got an email from Chris, the owner of these speakers. They are the JBL L-100s he brought me for restoration early in January. These things cost only about $250.pair in 1972, but they now fetch $1600/pair or so in decent condition on eBay. I'll charge him $160 for the restoration. I think he may intend to gift them to a friend. This is what they look like sanded down, with several corners replaced, and ready for oil. I'll try to take some "oiling phase" photos, as well as an "after" photo. I am off to Guitar Center now. Wish me me big happy fun with my Wednesday students.

That's cool. I'm sure they look or will look amazing when done. And no one will know work has been done.

@kaylachan I've thought of that over the years. It's cool to have a hobby that makes money and costs very little.

That's my hope! Dang, I wonder how many pairs of speakers I have restored at this point. I used to keep track. It's a fun/relaxing hobby.

They would make a nice gift to someone if they're into speakers.

I would think so. I think his friend may not have "done as well" as he has.

@kareng Teaching can be satisfying. (Of course it can be frustrating too.)

It a hobby where a bit of OCD/meticulousness is a plus.
