My Freebie From the Grocery Store

So if you read my previous discussion tonight, you know that I had to run to the grocery store for something for dinner. I also wanted to use some of my points for a free item before they expired. Last week none of the free items were appealing, so I waited.
I ended up getting a box of pancake mix. I had planned on maybe getting a Tostino's Pizza, but they are small and only priced at $2.39. I then turned to the pancake mix and syrup and decided to get the pancake mix since we like a specific brand of syrup. Now we need to make pancakes!! Or waffles or both!!
Does your grocery store have a point system where you earn points according to the amount you spend on groceries and lets you exchange points for a free item on their list? How do you like it!

Pretty much all the grocery stores have some sort of point/loyalty programs. One store is the best for this, you use your Max card and get a discount on certain items, those change every week. You might get $1 off your butter, or package of ground beef, or produce, or whatever, so it's always good for something. But free food is good, too, like you got, same concept, a form of discount.

No where we shop does not have a point system we shop at Walmart and things are pretty much always cheap there. Glad you got to get what you wanted with your points now you can make some pancakes and waffles.

It was the best alternative of products offered. I didn't really need it, because I just bought a big 5# box a couple of weeks ago. But it was something that we use. I'd rather get something than lose my points since they expire after so many months.

@kareng Yeah it is best to use them so you do not lose them. Now you will not need pancake mix for a while.

No, we don’t have those. What Meijer (a Walmart-like chain in the upper Midwest) has is a point system that you can trade for money off the order, or as much as a dollar off gasoline at their stations.

Nope. Consumers used to be in our city but they closed when I was in my twenties. Mom saved up points and got glassware or fancy dishes with her points.

@DaddyEvil They were pretty cool. I remember how excited both of my grandmothers would be to go cash them in for their prize. My mom always took them since neither one drove.

@kareng Yes, green stamps! That's right! I saved them for a few years after I moved out of mom's house. I think I eventually gave all I'd saved to her.

We collect points here on the purchase. And during Diwali, the store gives us some gift worth of those points. Once I got a electric rice which I have been using for few years now. Last year, I got a set of Borosil bowls from them. We don't get to choose.

We get points to apply either to fuel purchases or they say we can use it on our purchases as well. We just always apply it to fuel.

We get rewqrds points for buying certain types of items. That works out pretty well, and sometimes I have gotten groceries for free by using reward points. Once in a while they will have a free item too.
