By now you've read about the plane crash in Washington DC. A military helicopter and a commercial airliner collided in mid-air over the Potomac River. The commercial airliner was on final approach to Reagan airport on a flight from Kansas. The military helicopter was on a routine training mission based in nearby Virginia. Close to 70 people are feared dead. Apparently several high level ice skaters from the US and Russia were onboard the commercial airliner.
It strikes me as odd that with all of the advanced technology we have out there (high-tech radar, collision warning systems on aircraft, etc.) things like this can still happen. I am sure we'll be hearing more about this as the investigation commences. I hope nobody is so vulgar as to try and politicize this accident, at least until all of the facts are known. As with all accidents, there has to have been a "perfect storm" to allow it to happen.
Have you ever known anyone who died in a plane crash? I do not think I have. Are you afraid of flying? I am not, really, but I'm always aware that I am "totally giving up control" when I step into an airplane.

I'm afraid of take off, but then I'm fine. But crashes are rare, but never impossible.

The Rump has already politicized it. He is blaming Biden and even Obama.

Trump ordered that air traffic controller were ordered out or whatever and I wonder if that had something to do with this. There were no survivors. How horrific. Trumps smart come back asked by a reporter why he felt this had anything to do with the DEI and his response was "common sense". What a creep.

I can name three musicians who lost a parent in a plane crash: Joe Walsh, Linda McCartney, and Frank Sinatra.
My old training officer in VRC-40 was killed in a plane crash off an aircraft carrier after he left the squadron.
I’d hate to think that was an intentional act, but watching the footage I think Stevie Wonder could have seen that plane from the helicopter.

@TheHorse — that’s what my brother said (if they were flying on instruments they weren’t “looking”); however, the early reports said that the tower told the chopper of the plane and the chopper said they saw it.

@FourWalls That's where human fallibility comes it. At 8 PM in Winter, does "saw it" mean they know which plane they saw?

I knew someone that was in a crash, but survived. I haven’t been on a plane in many years. I was never afraid. I was saddened to hear of this crash.

Not sure if this qualifies me being afraid of flying or not but I’d never get on a helicopter or a very small plane. Im more or less ok on big planes once we have taken off and are flying.
I am not sure of the details but I have a feeling this was no accident.

@lovebuglena It all comes down to statistics. As I mentioned in a recent post, I was almost run over in a Safeway parking lot by a 90-year-old women who simply could not see. By the grace of God (or simple coincidence), I am still alive.

@TheHorse I guess I’m scared of small aircraft.
It’s just a feeling I have but it’s probably wrong.
