Meeting with the Vice Principal...

After school today we are meeting with the new vice principal at Eli's school. Is he in trouble? No.
What is it all about? It's about information to get him prepared to transition to middle school.
He has anxiety, so they want him to get the help he needs to make it easier for him.
I always thought he was just shy, but he will not talk to people he doesn't know, which means he doesn't talk at school and that's made previous school years difficult. Third grade through this year have been better which is great. However in middle school he will have many teachers throughout the day, so it is not as easy to deal with.
Therefore, I think today we have to sign some papers or something saying that we are okay with him getting any help he needs to succeed next year. Hopefully he can continue with counseling in middle school as he has done the past couple years in elementary. He likes seeing the counselor at this school, so hope he would like the next one too. I know his counselor now is going to miss him next year.
Anyways, we'll see how that goes. I am nervous to go to this meeting myself because of my anxiety. I don't do well around people at all. Even people I know (except those I am close to).
Do you think that is a good idea?

I think overall the meeting went well, and I am excited to see him thrive next year and beyond in school and life at large.

Hopefully it all does help and nothing else should have been added to the list of things to help him.

I think it will be of big help to Eli, All he needs is confidence and to feel as relaxed as he can be and he should be all right, Then hopefully he will find one or two good friends and from there, it is all smooth sailing, I was a very timid and shy girl and I had one good friend in grade school, Then due to strikes at schools my mom switched me to a private school, I was almost sick with apprehension because I knew no one. Took a couple of weeks and then I met up with girls who became my friends for life.

I think it will be good for him and prepare him for middle school better than doing nothing. You might ask if you could bring him to meet the new counselor now instead of waiting until school starts. That may ease his mind some with all the changes middle school brings.

I don't know yet if they even do counseling in middle school. Surely they do....but it is something to look into. I can't ask myself with my anxiety but my husband will be there too. I know going to middle school will be a big change for Eli, but so was going to elementary from pre-k and Kindergarten.

@MommyOfEli2013 Hopefully, everything will work out and if no counselor in Middle School, maybe the current one can help him toward the end of the year to get ready!

@kareng I guess there is a counselor at the middle school, they just work differently in middle school. It's all written out that he can get a lot of different kinds of help and the paperwork won't "expire" until 2040 so if he needs help even in college it would still help him.

I am so glad he is going to have a counselor to help with this process. He definitely needs it, and I know you want him to succeed, so this is a great continuation to make that happen. It is wonderful that they care enough to have the vice principal meet with you.

Well I don't know if he will have a counselor at the middle school, but some kind of help for sure. It is good that they care enough to have this meeting to talk about things and all that. Not sure yet what all is going to happen.
