Cleaning out my silverware drawer

It really wasn't a task I planned on doing, but the holder had things underneath it blocking the smooth opening and closing of the drawer. Plus the holder had some crumbs and stuff in it. I will run it through the DW. It has been a long time since this drawer has been cleaned out and I am unearthing lots of "treasures" that I forgot I had like my can opener from the Stratosphere in Las Vegas, and other things I had forgotten I had. How often do you clean out your silverware drawer? Is it a regular task for you, or are you like me just doing it when it really needs to be done?

I keep mine pretty cleaned up as it drives me crazy if it gets sloppy. I had a special drawer for the long handled cooking utensils when we had our new kitchen put in at our old place. I loved that drawer. I had another one for the regular cutlery and ever since then it has been easier to keep it tidy.

I will move some of what is in there to another drawer. I know one thing, I have way too many pastry brushes..and I rarely use them. That is something I should have taken to the flea swap. Who needs 4 or 5 pastry brushes when they rarely need them?

@snowy22315 I was just thinking that I could use a long handled sauce brush. I hate to use the short handled on when I have something down in the instant pot that needs saucing. Those appliances get so hot and I fear hitting the sides by mistake.

@Juliaacv That should be easy enough to find, a month or two ago I bought a spatchula because I couldn't seem to find one and now they are coming out of the woodwork!

I don’t really have a drawer for my silverware. It’s like a huge vase, and all that silverware peaks out at the top. I only have two kitchen drawers available because the third is stuck in the shut position.

I'm not sure I've ever cleaned out my silverware drawer except when we move, so over seven years ago was the last time. I just finished cleaning out old leftovers from the fridge and washing a mound of dirty containers. (Pretty stores stuff in the Tupperware in the fridge and then never eats any of it. I store my leftovers in the fridge, too, but I eat mine. I won't eat the foods she makes but she will eat the foods I make for myself.) Once in a while, if I start griping enough, she'll clean out her own leftovers but by that time, they're penicillin factories... Gross!

I would tell her you aren't her maid or housekeeper. That's her responsibility.

@snowy22315 Uh huh... and then the leftovers would still be in the fridge a year later.

I admit that my silverware drawer is a mess. I have to be in the mood to tidy that kind of space. I bought a green ceramic vase for the bigger stuff, like spatulas and scissor. That's on the counter.

I have a seperate drawer for alot of that kind of stuff but I think I could use another holder for that as well to keep it organized.

I have to admit mine doesn't get cleaned out too often. If stuff gets hidden under other stuff, you forget you have it and then it's never 'useful'. At least, that's how it is with me.

As long as it is clean hahahaha I don't really clean it, but if I have time and I am not lazy I often clean it every week.

It's usually pretty neat, so I think it has never been cleaned. Other drawers need and get some "maintenance", such as the one for tablecloths.
