Did Phil See His Shadow?

As you know, today is Groundhog Day and the day that we get our weather prediction from Phil, the official Groundhog, winter weather predictor. Today, Phil did see his shadow, which means an extended winter. I am not happy with Mr. Phil today and hope he is like our other weather forecasters and WRONG on the forecast about 50% of the time! Note: Photo above is not of Phil, just a regular and cute groundhog! What do you think of Phil's forecast? Photo Credit: Pixabay, Public Domain

Going into Winter, the prediction was for a long and exceptionally cold Winter. We got the exceptionally cold part so we're still in for the long part of the prediction. The NOAA checked back through 100 years of records and Phil was right about 35% of the time, according to the report I read early this morning. About the same as the learned meteorologist's predictions. (I wonder how they feel being compared to a rodent for accuracy? )

Right. I also read that they are about 40% correct. That's probably better than the meteorologists.

I find it irronic that offically reguardless of the shadow prediction, we have about sxi weeks of winter before the spring equnoix. But, it could go either way depending on where you live.

@kareng I also think someone else mentioned that Phill is right only about 39 percent of the time, too. But, it's still a fun tradation that people still love.

Yes, not valid and correct all the time, but neither is the weather man!

@RebeccasFarm Just very odd for our area and for a good 7-8 days in a row, very mind boggling!

These are indeed cute. We don't have them here but we do have our fair share of cute critters.

Our rodent is Wiarton Willie, he is calling for an early spring, but I cannot imagine that to happen.

Other animals in Florida making predictions don't agree with him bu then it is always that way the sun can be shining in one place and not in another,
