To do or not to do.

Hey everyone!
I’ve been thinking about trying one of those 23andMe DNA tests for quite a while now. I’ve always loved exploring family history and DNA stuff, and there’s so much I don’t know about my dad’s side of the family.
I’ve noticed that most family history websites offer these test kits, but I’m a bit overwhelmed with the options. 23andMe has several packages – the basic one is under fifty bucks, while the more extensive tests go up to a couple of hundred.
I’m kind of torn! Spending two hundred dollars feels a bit extravagant, but Chris encouraged me to treat myself with my tax refund after covering bills and everything. Plus, if I’m going to do this, I want to make sure I get the most information possible, right?
So, I’d love to hear from anyone in myLot who has tried these gene or DNA tests! Which one did you choose, and would you recommend it? Any insights would be much appreciated!

I don't exactly like the idea of them keeping my DNA on file either lol. It just seems sketchy.

I've heard of them, but could never do it. I wish you luck and hope it works out.

I just want answers. I've tried for the past ten plus years to get them from my dad, and well that's just not happening. So I'll do it this way.

@thislittlepennyearns I would love to try to trace my family back, but it is very time consuming!

@kareng Not really. I used to do it for a living. I have the world wide Ancestry subscription, if you want me to do some digging for you

My dad's family is iffy. Soooooo yeah. It will be a roller coaster ride for sure.

My sister did an Ancestry kit, but not the one that goes into what health problems run in the family. It cost about $80, and she got a host of information, and still gets updated even today. I say if you can afford it, it’s worth getting as much information on 23andme as you can. I don’t think I could do it, but that’s probably because I feel like I know too much already.

I think I will probably do the 200 one that has the health too. But like you , I'm a little afraid of finding out there's even more more wrong with me than I already know.
